Doug Ghim leads the John Deere Classic after day one at TPC Deere Run.<\/strong><\/p>\n

Ghim shot a stunning round of nine-under par 62 at the John Deere Classic<\/a>, one that included seven birdies and an eagle.<\/p>\n

He leads Max Homa by one shot after the six-time PGA Tour winner returned to form<\/a> with a round of eight-under par 63.<\/p>\n

The 29-year-old, who was the runner-up in the 2017 U.S. Amateur Championship, has experienced a really challenging 2025 season.<\/p>\n

He has no top-10s to his name in the 17 PGA Tour<\/a> events he has played so far, with six missed cuts to his name.<\/p>\n

Ghim has played 162 PGA Tour events and is still without a win.<\/p>\n

Maybe this week at TPC Deere Run will be his time.<\/p>\n

Doug Ghim makes PGA Tour history at the John Deere Classic<\/p>\n

Ghim fired his career low round on Thursday in Silvis, Illinois.<\/p>\n

It was his 488th round on tour, and he beat his previous best of 63 (shot four times) by one stroke.<\/p>\n

However, that was not the most incredible statistic from his round.<\/p>\n

The 29-year-old did something that has been done only three times in the shot-link era on the PGA Tour.<\/p>\n

Ghim lost 0.765 strokes putting. In doing so, he became only the fourth person in the last 20+ years on the PGA Tour to shoot 62 while losing more than half a stroke on the greens.<\/p>\n

Shooting a round of nine-under par whilst losing strokes on the greens really is quite something. He only made 44 feet of putts on Thursday, and that tells its own story really, doesn\u2019t it?<\/p>\n

Ghim has an underwhelming record on the PGA Tour to say the least.<\/p>\n

A win at the John Deere Classic for Ghim would make up for all those missed cuts and his lack of top-10 finishes.<\/p>\n

There is still a very long way to go, of course, but he could not have got off to a better start at TPC Deere Run this week.<\/p>\n<\/p>\n
