Mavs GM Nico Harrison helped the team reach the 2024 NBA Finals.<\/p>\n

Harrison oversaw the team and its rise behind its then-star, Luka Don\u010di\u0107, as the Mavs made the NBA Finals in 2024. Dallas lost the series<\/a> 4-1, but seemingly had a bright future with Don\u010di\u0107 and other key players in tow.<\/p>\n However, Harrison and the Mavs stunned the NBA world last season when Don\u010di\u0107 was dealt to the Los Angeles Lakers in a blockbuster, three-team trade in early February<\/a>.<\/p>\n Harrison later said he miscalculated the depth of love his club\u2019s fans had for Don\u010di\u0107 before the trade that sent the young superstar to the Lakers for Anthony Davis. But despite\u00a0the persistent catcalls from fans for him to be fired in the months since the deal, Harrison said he believed that trade was the right move for building a championship contender in Dallas.<\/p>\n \u201cI did know that Luka was important to the fan base,\u201d Harrison said during his season-ending news conference in late April. \u201cI didn\u2019t quite know it to what level.\u201d<\/p>\n Dallas secured the No. 1 pick in the 2025 NBA Draft and selected Cooper Flagg, who is a key piece of the Mavs\u2019 core along with Davis, Dereck Lively II and injured star guard Kyrie Irving.<\/p>\n Harrison spent 19 years in Nike\u2019s basketball division, and before his time with Dallas was vice president of North American operations. He worked closely with many of the brand\u2019s stars, including the late Kobe Bryant and Michael Jordan.<\/p>\n After a year at Army, Harrison played his final three seasons at Montana State before a seven-year pro career in Belgium.
