The Detroit Tigers<\/a> are heading into a pivotal offseason, where a lot of changes could be made. But, even though a lot of change is possible, keeping things the same is also possible.<\/p>\n

Despite Tarik Skubal trade rumors, the Tigers could keep him for the 2026 season as they look to win a World Series in what could be his last year in Detroit.<\/p>\n

Gleyber Torres, meanwhile, is a free agent who is gauging interest from around the league, according to Jon Morosi of MLB Network<\/a>. But Torres, while weighing his options, is leaving a huge $22.025 million Tigers decision on the table.<\/p>\n

“Heard at GM Meetings that Gleyber Torres and his reps are actively gauging interest from clubs on multi-year deals before deciding on the Tigers’ 1-year qualifying offer of\u00a0 $22.025 million,” Morosi reports. “At this point, accepting the QO is still under consideration.”<\/p>\n

This report is a very notable one for the Tigers. Torres is a free agent after a productive season in Detroit, and he signed a $15 million contract for one year to join the Tigers.<\/p>\n

He had his first All-Star season since 2019, posting a .256 average and .745 OPS by season’s end. Detroit used the Qualifying Offer on Torres, meaning the 28-year-old second baseman has a strong one-year option on the table.<\/p>\n

As Morosi mentions, Torres is gauging interest in longer-term deals, but if he can’t find a suitable offer, he could accept the Tigers’ qualifying offer for $22.025 million.<\/p>\n

It’d be a one-year deal for Torres, but for Detroit, it would guarantee a player the organization is familiar with would return, getting a key member of the infield back for another year.<\/p>\n

It was the tale of two halves for Torres in 2025. He started the year off strong, with a .281 average and an .812 OPS before the All-Star break. But, across the final two and a half months of the year, Torres hit .223 with a .659 OPS.<\/p>\n

While his second half wasn’t great, his chances of returning to Detroit look possible, especially if his multi-year offers in free agency aren’t great.<\/p>\n

The Tigers could be on the hook for $22.025 million in 2026 with Torres if he winds up accepting the qualifying offer, which is a possibility according to Morosi’s report.<\/p>\n
