The girlfriend of late Dallas Cowboys defensive end Marshawn Kneeland<\/strong><\/a> broke her silence after the NFL star\u2019s sudden death.<\/p>\n

\u201cI\u2019m grieving hard right now,\u201d Catalina Mancera<\/strong><\/a> told the Daily Mail<\/a> on Monday, November 10. \u201cIt will be a long time before I\u2019ll feel ready to talk at any length.\u201d<\/p>\n

Mancera, 22, called the police the night before Kneeland\u2019s death<\/a> on the morning of Thursday, November 6. She expressed concern over Kneeland\u2019s well-being, telling authorities her boyfriend had \u201ca history of mental illness.\u201d<\/p>\n

After a brief police chase<\/a>, Kneeland was found near his abandoned car on the Dallas Parkway, dead of an apparent suicide. He was 24 years old.\u00a0<\/p>\n

\u201cWe\u2019re still in the early stages of everything,\u201d Mancera added. \u201cWe are working on the funeral arrangements. I don\u2019t know where it\u2019s going to be yet.\u201d<\/p>\n

Kneeland was also survived by his father, Shawn<\/strong>, who is currently incarcerated<\/a> in the Upper Peninsula of Michigan, and his three siblings: brothers, AJ<\/strong> and Shawn Jr.<\/strong>, and sister, Yahmya<\/strong>.\u00a0<\/p>\n

The football star\u2019s mother, Wendy<\/strong>, died in February 2024, just two months before he was selected in the second round by the Cowboys in the 2024 NFL Draft.\u00a0<\/p>\n

Mancera, a fashion designer, has been staying at the Plano, Texas, apartment where Kneeland lived prior to his death.\u00a0<\/p>\n

Nicole Kneeland-Woods<\/strong>, Marshawn\u2019s cousin, told the Daily Mail that the NFL player started dating Mancera while he was a student-athlete at Western Michigan University.\u00a0<\/p>\n

\u201cMarshawn shared a very special relationship with Catalina, whom he had been with since his sophomore year of college,\u201d she said. \u201cThey supported each other through many stages of life. Catalina is an important part of our family and she\u2019s hurting deeply too.\u201d<\/p>\n

Despite what 911 dispatchers allege Catalina told them, Nicole said, \u201cThere were no previous signs or indications that Marshawn was dealing with mental issues.\u201d<\/p>\n

\u201cMarshawn was a strong, loving person who cared deeply about his family and everyone around him,\u201d Nicole added.<\/p>\n

In addition to the death of his mother, Marshawn also lost his grandfather in 2023, which Nicole said was \u201cwas incredibly hard for him.\u201d<\/p>\n

\u201cBut beyond that grief, Marshawn didn\u2019t show signs of depression or mental health issues,\u201d Nicole explained. \u201cOur family is devastated and still trying to process something that feels unimaginable. We want people to remember Marshawn for his kindness, his sense of humor and his drive. He was loved deeply and that love will always be his legacy.\u201d<\/p>\n

Jones added, \u201cAll of those things are very natural, come to mind, but his death is such a national awareness thing that it takes on some of that light when we think about how we go forward.\u201d<\/p>\n
