Ned Lamont is expected to announce an agreement on Tuesday morning.<\/p>\n<p class=\"text | article-text\">Lamont scheduled a news conference for 11:30 a.m. on Tuesday.<\/p>\n<p class=\"text | article-text\">The deal involves $13 million in cash and $22 million in assumed debts, according to CT Insider reports. <\/p>\n<p class=\"text | article-text\">The total cost of the hospital <a href=\"https:\/\/www.wfsb.com\/2025\/09\/17\/lawmakers-raise-concerns-over-uconn-healths-proposed-500m-bid-waterbury-hospital\/\" target=\"_self\" rel=\"noopener\" title=\"https:\/\/www.wfsb.com\/2025\/09\/17\/lawmakers-raise-concerns-over-uconn-healths-proposed-500m-bid-waterbury-hospital\/\">is expected to reach at least $420 million to nearly $500 million<\/a>, and is to be paid off over 5 years through bond issues.<\/p>\n<p class=\"text | article-text\">Lamont plans to add the bond funding to the agenda for an upcoming special legislative session.<\/p>\n<p class=\"text | article-text\">Prospect Medical Holdings <a href=\"https:\/\/www.wfsb.com\/2025\/01\/13\/prospect-medical-holdings-bankruptcy-what-you-need-know\/\" target=\"_self\" rel=\"noopener\" title=\"https:\/\/www.wfsb.com\/2025\/01\/13\/prospect-medical-holdings-bankruptcy-what-you-need-know\/\">filed for bankruptcy in January<\/a>, sparking heated debates about the future of Waterbury Hospital.<\/p>\n<p class=\"text | article-text\">CT Insider found the hospital experienced a 40 percent decline in patient volume in recent years, with two consecutive years of annual operating losses exceeding $20 million.<\/p>\n<p class=\"text | article-text\">If the deal goes through, it could more than double the inpatient capacity of UConn\u2019s John Dempsey Hospital, creating what would be called the \u201cConnecticut Healthcare System,\u201d powered by UConn.<\/p>\n<p class=\"text | article-text\">The acquisition would transform the face of medical care in Connecticut, officials said.<\/p>\n<p class=\"text | article-text\">UConn Health would still need to apply for a certificate of need, a process that typically takes about 60 days, before taking ownership.<\/p>\n<p class=\"copyright |\">Copyright 2025 WFSB.
