A subsidiary of Sonic Healthcare, the third largest laboratory company in the world, behind Quest and Labcorp, it relocated its headquarters to Dallas from Austin and announced the acquisition of Cairo Diagnostics, a provider of hematology oncology diagnostics.<\/strong><\/p>\n<p>While financial details of the acquisition weren\u2019t disclosed, company leaders say the benefits are clear.<\/p>\n<p><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" aria-describedby=\"caption-attachment-281193\" class=\"img-responsive\" src=\"https:\/\/www.europesays.com\/us\/wp-content\/uploads\/2025\/11\/SonicHealthcare_CoryARoberts-MD-300.jpg\" alt=\"\" width=\"211\" height=\"211\"\/><\/p>\n<p id=\"caption-attachment-281193\" class=\"wp-caption-text\">Dr. Cory Roberts is<br \/>CEO of Sonic Healthcare USA.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cCairo Diagnostics\u2019 integrated approach to testing for blood cancers and analyzing tumors, combined with Sonic\u2019s national network, means we\u2019ll be able to deliver comprehensive bone marrow and next-generation sequencing results in four to five days,\u201d said Cory A. Roberts, M.D., Sonic Healthcare\u2019s CEO.<\/p>\n<p>That\u2019s about half the time it currently takes, the company said.<\/p>\n<p>Cairo, well known in the tri-state area of Connecticut, New York, and New Jersey, combines histopathology, molecular diagnostics, cytogenetics, flow cytometry, and immunohistochemistry to provide healthcare providers with faster access to data for informed treatment decisions. The company\u2019s technology will now be deployed nationwide through SHUSA\u2019s sales team and managed care contracts.<\/p>\n<p><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" aria-describedby=\"caption-attachment-281194\" class=\"img-responsive\" src=\"https:\/\/www.europesays.com\/us\/wp-content\/uploads\/2025\/11\/SonicHealthcare_PPLAB3-970.jpg\" alt=\"\" width=\"970\" height=\"464\"\/><\/p>\n<p id=\"caption-attachment-281194\" class=\"wp-caption-text\">[Photo: Sonic Healthcare]<\/p>\n<p>\u201cSome cancers have time-sensitive treatment windows\u2014like acute leukemia. If you miss it, the treatment is much less effective. Getting results in half the time lets people make the best decisions for their treatment,\u201d said Mohamed Salama, M.D., Sonic Healthcare\u2019s chief medical officer. <\/p>\n<p>SHUSA has 45 laboratories, both anatomic and clinical pathology, across the country, and performs blood testing as well as biopsy readings for more than 30 million patients annually.<\/p>\n<p><strong>Saying \u201cYes\u201d to Dallas<\/strong><\/p>\n<p>Headquartered in Austin since 2005, after <a href=\"https:\/\/www.sonichealthcareusa.com\/about-us\/who-we-are\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">acquiring Clinical Pathology Laboratories<\/a>, SHUSA likes the business-friendly policies of the Lone Star State. And company leadership saw distinct advantages in the Dallas-Fort Worth area.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cBeing able to get to all 27 of our key cities on direct flights was a huge time efficiency for the executive team\u2019s travel,\u201d said Roberts. \u201cPlus, we find airfare to be about 30% more cost-effective than Austin.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>SHUSA leadership also views the region\u2019s population\u2014at more than eight million and well-educated\u2014as beneficial to the talent pool. It\u2019s important, they say, not just from a staffing perspective, but also for research and innovation.<\/p>\n<p><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" aria-describedby=\"caption-attachment-281192\" class=\"img-responsive\" src=\"https:\/\/www.europesays.com\/us\/wp-content\/uploads\/2025\/11\/SonicHealthcare_DrMohamedSalama-300.jpg\" alt=\"\" width=\"211\" height=\"211\"\/><\/p>\n<p id=\"caption-attachment-281192\" class=\"wp-caption-text\">Dr. Mohamed Salama is<br \/>chief medical officer of Sonic Healthcare USA.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cThroughout the history of the company, we have brought innovations along with other partners, medical centers, or universities\u2014and that has had a significant impact on patients. We\u2019re seeing more success stories,\u201d said Salama.<\/p>\n<p>He points out a few examples, including ThyroSeq, which is next-gen sequencing for thyroid cancer, as well as digital pathology, which uses AI to convert glass slides with tissue samples into images that can be easily shared and analyzed for abnormalities. Both are innovations that SHUSA was able to make widely available.<\/p>\n<p><strong>People first and patient-focused<\/strong><\/p>\n<p>SHUSA\u2019s headquarters move to Dallas\u2019 Uptown was completed in August.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cWe\u2019ve had tremendous positive returns from the team members that have come to the office as far as restaurant, hotel, and living density,\u201d said Roberts, adding that two executives have apartments a block away and walk to work every day. He relocated to North Texas in 2000 from Nebraska.<\/p>\n<p>Salama, who emigrated to the U.S. 30 years ago, first entered the country in Dallas, and he\u2019s looking forward to making the region his full-time home.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cWe also got a really strong medical leader from Cairo who fits in perfectly with our model and our mission of putting purpose over profits,\u201d said Roberts. It\u2019s very early days, but the first couple of weeks have been very strong.
