Harrison’s trade of former Mavericks star Luka Doncic apparently hasn’t dissuaded Dallasites from naming their pets after Luka. Particularly among cat-owners: There was a 139% uptick in cats named Luka in 2025 in Dallas, even after his trade to LA.

Mavericks

Be the smartest Mavericks fan. Dogs named Arch are up 181% from last year’s study. For good measure, “Manning” is the No. 3 trendiest among cat names, up 232% from 2024.

Also among the trendiest dog names for 2025 are “Flagg” (No. 4, up 31% increase) for new Mavericks rookie Cooper Flagg. And Highland Park’s Scottie Scheffler is the No. 1 golfer in the world, so “Scottie” (No. 5, up 22%) made its way to the top 5 as well.

Bills QB Josh Allen has the distinction of being the trendiest sports-related name among cats in 2025, tied with Jalen Hurts (up 232%), but Allen gets the tiebreaker since he’s No. 2 on the list of trendiest dog names as well.

Other sports-related names submitted to Rover for the study: Cee Dee Little Lamb and Catrick Mahomes.

Overall, the trendiest names for dogs in 2025: Caesar (up 122%) for males, and Elphie (up 244%) for females.

And among cats: Priscilla (up 73%) for females, and Tater (92%) for males.

Lamster: Plans to abandon Dallas City Hall are a tragic farce

City leaders seem bent on leaving the iconic building without consulting voters.

Next Mavericks GM, whoever it is, faces colossal mess with limited resources

Nico Harrison’s successor will have their hands full.

The top Dallas sports moments of 140 years: Doak’s house, America’s Team’s City

Plus, the female athlete of the half-century and more that has highlighted nearly a century and a half of sports in North Texas.

Find more Cowboys coverage from The Dallas Morning News here.

Dallas Mavericks fans were likely celebrating after Tuesday’s news of Nico Harrison’s departure from the team.
