RSN’s 1.1 household rating was up 31% YOY from FanDuel.

Their five-state territory (Texas, Oklahoma, Louisiana, Arkansas and Eastern New Mexico) streaming on Victory+, which cost $100 for a season pass with an early sign-up, averaged 100,852 viewers per game, according to internal data provided by the team. The team also had 15 free over-the-air broadcasts.

“It was the best decision we could make even as this market has changed and things have fluctuated,” Rangers SVP/Broadcasting Angie Swint said last week. “It is still the best decision that we could have made. … We’re very fortunate that Rangers fans came with us in this process.”

The Rangers could’ve remained with Main Street Sports Group/FanDuel Sports Network or gone under MLB’s TV umbrella. Instead, they decided to create the Rangers Sports Media & Entertainment Company and take things in-house. Neil Leibman stepped down as team president of business operations to become the new company’s chairman. “We’re in better hands managing our own risk,” Liebman said at the time.

The Rangers had been getting around $110M in annual rights fees from their TV deal with Main Street (then Diamond). That figure dropped to around $90M in 2024. At the time, Liebman, who did not confirm those numbers, was optimistic in anticipating the team could get “at or above what we received last year.” However, media experts felt that would be challenging, and indeed it was. Still, the data is a big positive heading into Year 2.

“The first year of Rangers Sports Network exceeded our expectations as far as viewership and production quality, and we are grateful to everyone in our RSN team who helped make this possible,” Leibman said in a statement. “The ratings and engagement data confirm that more people were watching Rangers games than we have experienced for years, which was one of the key goals for this effort.

“While local TV revenue may not have reached previous levels, we can say with confidence that building a quality broadcast internally was the best path for the Rangers. The local TV landscape for MLB clubs is constantly evolving, and we feel the Rangers and RSN are well-positioned for the immediate future.”

As for what’s next, Swint said: “We’re working on our graphics package.
