It all began with the unyielding success of Absolute Batman, a series that introduced the most horrifying version of The Joker the world has ever seen, and also generated at least one direct spin-off: Absolute Catwoman, confirmed for 2026.

There’s something missing in that space, though. Batman, Superman, Wonder Woman and The Flash are all involved in their own Absolute series, sure, but there’s at least one member of the Justice League who hasn’t yet gotten his fair shake at shocking the masses, though things could change soon for King Arthur Curry of Atlantis a.k.a. Aquaman.

Kelly Thompson, writer of the sensational Absolute Wonder Woman, just injected a syringe full of hope and excitement into what could be on the way for a standalone Aquaman in the Absolute Universe, dropping some gems in a recent conversation with the Splash Pages Comic Book Club — also referencing her use of his Trident in her storytelling.

“I certainly wouldn’t be able to say, but [he] certainly has been a part of the conversation. Like, people for sure are talking about it, and they wouldn’t have let me put the Trident in there if they weren’t open to that question. I can’t say it’s coming, but I think it’s a part of the conversation, one hundred percent.”

That statement makes for strong odds regarding Aquaman, because one hundred percent leaves nothing to the imagination and is the definition of definitive, but is Thompson mixing concrete with coyness?

Aquaman Is Trying to Get His Head Above Absolute Water

Image via DC Comics

As is often the case with comic book fans, let’s have some conspiracy theory-level fun here. It’s clear Thompson confesses Absolute Aquaman has been a part of active dialogue over at DC Comics, and that’s fantastic to hear, because simply trying to imagine exactly how demented things could get for the King, and by his hand, is enough to get ecstatic over. But when Thompson mentions she “wouldn’t be able to say” and that she “can’t say it’s coming”, what exactly does that mean?

On one hand, it could be taken at face value to mean she simply doesn’t know if it’ll happen or not but, on the other hand, one that’s more fun to consider, is that she potentially knows Absolute Aquaman is indeed on the way and isn’t embargoed from making that news public at this point in time. All fans of the Absolute Universe can do is hypothesize on the question of if and when, but at least, at minimum, DC Comics knows the Justice League isn’t whole if Aquaman isn’t getting in on the action, too.

The Absolute Universe anthology is available at local comics shops and via subscription on DC Universe Infinite.

                                            Release Date

         December 21, 2018

                                            Runtime

    143 Minutes

                                            Director

               James Wan

                                            Writers

David Leslie Johnson-McGoldrick, Will Beall, Geoff Johns, James Wan, Paul Norris, Mort Weisinger

                                            Producers

               Peter Safran, Rob Cowan

The world rightfully can’t get enough of the Absolute Universe — easily one of the best and most…

[28
171,53,67,132,68
0":"post-374513","1":"post","2":"type-post","3":"status-publish","4":"format-standard","5":"has-post-thumbnail","7":"category-movies","8":"tag-entertainment","9":"tag-movies","10":"tag-united-states","11":"tag-unitedstates","12":"tag-us
["GET
