That decision followed <a href=\"https:\/\/wwww.septa.org\/news\/septa-restores-full-service-fare-increase\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">an emergency approval from PennDOT<\/a> to <a href=\"https:\/\/whyy.org\/articles\/septa-service-restored-september-14-maintenance-funding\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">restore full service<\/a> after earlier budget cuts caused the Philadelphia-area transit system to scale back operations. A Philadelphia judge <a href=\"https:\/\/whyy.org\/articles\/septa-services-restored-judge\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">ordered the agency<\/a> to reverse the 20% service cuts.\n<\/p>\n<p>\u201cSEPTA is essential to the economic vitality of our region and Commonwealth, and without sufficient support, we are at risk of falling behind competitively,\u201d Sauer said. \u201cJust last week, voters across the country <a href=\"https:\/\/www.apta.com\/news-publications\/press-releases\/releases\/on-election-night-voters-fast-tracked-11-8-billion-for-public-transportation\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">approved 13 ballot measures<\/a> that will deliver over $11 billion for public transit improvements, expansions, operations and infrastructure.\u201d\n<\/p>\n<p>SEPTA is facing a <a href=\"https:\/\/whyy.org\/articles\/septa-approved-budget-cuts-public-transportation\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">$213 million budget<\/a> deficit. Senate Republicans have introduced legislation that would <a href=\"https:\/\/whyy.org\/articles\/septa-accountability-pa-state-senate-gop\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">require biennial reports<\/a> on its financial progress and use of state funds, while also tackling fare evasion, expanding public-private partnerships, and improving bus routes.\n<\/p>\n<p>\u201cSEPTA is committed to doing its part by demanding fiscal discipline and accountability across the Authority and continuing with efforts to improve service reliability, <a href=\"https:\/\/wwww.septa.org\/news\/third-quarter-crime-report-2025\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">safety and security<\/a> and customer service,\u201d Sauer said.\n  <\/p>\n<p>In the meantime, Regional Rail riders are currently dealing with delays as <a href=\"https:\/\/billypenn.com\/2025\/11\/10\/septa-service-cuts-nov-14-deadline\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">SEPTA conducts federally mandated inspections<\/a> on its Silverliner IV railcars, which date back as far as the mid-1970s, following multiple fires this year.
