For the first time since Sept. 2005, ESPN\u2018s College GameDay is headed to No. 22 Pittsburgh<\/a><\/strong> for the Panthers\u2019 clash against No. 9 Notre Dame<\/a><\/strong> this weekend.<\/p>\n

Both teams are red-hot heading into the matchup. The Fighting Irish have won seven consecutive games after opening the year with back-to-back losses, while Pitt<\/strong> has rattled off five consecutive wins after switching to freshman Mason Heintschel<\/a><\/strong> at the quarterback position.<\/p>\n

With a matchup this big rolling into town, you would think that the head coach would be doing everything he can to earn a monstrous win and add a top-10 victory to his team\u2019s resume. Well, Pittsburgh<\/strong> head coach Pat Narduzzi<\/a><\/strong> didn\u2019t quite set the world on fire with his quote earlier this week.<\/p>\n

\u201cAbsolutely not,\u201d\u00a0Narduzzi said Monday<\/a> when asked if it was a \u2018must-win\u2019 game. \u201cIt is not an ACC game. I\u2019m glad you brought that up. It is not an ACC game. I would gladly get beat 103 or 110-10 in that game. They could put 100 up on us as long as we win the next two after that. Again, our focus is on Notre Dame<\/strong> and getting as many wins as we can, one at a time.\u201d<\/p>\n

In the grand scheme of things, Narduzzi isn\u2019t wrong. Pittsburgh<\/strong> currently sits at 7-2 (5-1), tied atop the ACC standings with Georgia Tech<\/a><\/strong>, SMU<\/a><\/strong>, and Virginia<\/a><\/strong>. A loss to Notre Dame<\/strong> would do nothing to hurt Pittsburgh<\/strong>\u2018s College Football Playoff Rankings, as wins in its final two conference games (No. 15 Miami<\/a><\/strong> and No. 16 Georgia Tech<\/strong>) would likely send it to the ACC Championship Game. A win there would clinch the program\u2019s first ever appearance in the CFP.<\/p>\n

When the quote was brought up on the latest edition of \u2018The Triple Option<\/a>\u2018 podcast, College Football Hall of Famer Urban Meyer<\/a><\/strong> humorously stated that Narduzzi\u2019s comments were \u2018A.I.\u2019<\/p>\n

\u201cHe\u2019s not right,\u201d Meyer said. \u201cI\u2019m saying that\u2019s (not right). I know (Pat) Narduzzi <\/strong>really well. That\u2019s A.I. He didn\u2019t say that. Bulls**t. He didn\u2019t say that. That\u2019s A.I. That\u2019s that fake stuff. What the hell are you talking about? I talked to him, and that\u2019s a great football coach man. Intense sucker. I\u2019m telling you, that\u2019s A.I. I don\u2019t believe it. His team is going to be playing their ass off to be winning that game.\u201d<\/p>\n

A win for the Panthers would likely send them into their final two games (both against top-16 opponents) ranked inside the top-15 of the College Football Playoff Rankings. Kick-off for Saturday\u2019s monstrous clash at Acrisure Stadium is scheduled for 12:00 PM ET.
