{"id":375381,"date":"2025-11-13T06:57:16","date_gmt":"2025-11-13T06:57:16","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.europesays.com\/us\/375381\/"},"modified":"2025-11-13T06:57:16","modified_gmt":"2025-11-13T06:57:16","slug":"los-angeles-olympics-2028-womens-100m-track-final-moved-before-men-event","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.europesays.com\/us\/375381\/","title":{"rendered":"Los Angeles Olympics 2028 womens 100m track final moved before men event"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>The\u00a02028 Los Angeles Olympics\u00a0will be the first in history to schedule the women\u2019s 100-meter track final on the opening day of competitions and push the men\u2019s event to the second day.<\/p>\n<p>The full LA28 schedule was released Wednesday, with organizers announcing the unprecedented change to prioritize the\u00a0women\u2019s category.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cThe women\u2019s 100 meters will be one of the most-watched events, and we wanted to start with a showcase of the fastest females in the world,\u201d LA28 chief of sport and Games delivery Shana Ferguson told reporters.<\/p>\n<p>Opening day on July 15 will feature all three rounds of the women\u2019s 100 meters. Typically, women\u2019s track athletes run a maximum of two events per day in the Olympics. So the three events in one day will also be uncharted territory for the category and its athletes.\u00a0<\/p>\n<p>The change to give women sprinters the early-window spotlight comes at a time of popularity growth for women\u2019s sports in the US and global focus on protecting the women\u2019s category from biologically male trans athletes.<\/p>\n<p>The International Olympic Committee (IOC) is reportedly moving toward enacting a new policy that will prohibit trans athletes from competing as women, according to multiple reports this week.<\/p>\n<p>Saint Lucia\u2019s Julien Alfred wins the women\u2019s 100m final at the Stade de France during the 2024 Paris Summer Olympics on Aug. 3, 2024. Getty Images<\/p>\n<p>President\u00a0Donald Trump\u00a0suggested in August that there would be some form of genetic testing at the LA Olympics in order to ensure no males compete in women\u2019s events.<\/p>\n<p>US Olympic and Paralympic Committee (USOPC) Chief Medical Officer Dr. Jonathan Finnoff told reporters last month that the USOPC is exploring options to make SRY gene tests available to US sports governing bodies ahead of the LA Olympics.<\/p>\n<p>Other LA 28 Schedule highlights<\/p>\n<p><a href=\"https:\/\/nypost.com\/2024\/08\/11\/us-news\/a-look-ahead-at-the-2028-la-olympic-games-flag-football-obstacle-course-racing-and-no-cars\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">American flag football\u00a0will be making<\/a> its Olympics debut in 2028, with men\u2019s and women\u2019s competitions scheduled to begin on July 15 at Exposition Park Stadium, where all the flag football games will be held.<\/p>\n<p>The men\u2019s gold medal game will take place on Friday, July 21, with the women\u2019s gold medal game set to take place the next day on Saturday, July 22.<\/p>\n<p>Baseball and softball will be making their returns to the Olympics after being absent at the Paris Games last summer.<\/p>\n<p>President Donald Trump speaks after signing an executive order regarding the 2028 Los Angeles Olympics on Aug. 5, 2025. Getty Images<\/p>\n<p>All the baseball games will be taking place at\u00a0Dodgers Stadium, beginning on Thursday July 13. The gold medal game will then take place on Wednesday, July 19.<\/p>\n<p>The softball games will be played at OKC Softball Park, beginning on Sunday, July 23, with the gold medal game taking place on Saturday, July 29.<\/p>\n<p>Basketball, which the US has dominated for the last three decades, will begin two days before the opening ceremony for the women on Wednesday, July 12, and one day before the opening ceremony for the men on Thursday, July 13.<\/p>\n<p>The women\u2019s gold medal game will then be held on Saturday, July 29, and the men\u2019s final will be on Sunday, July 30.
