{"id":375389,"date":"2025-11-13T07:01:12","date_gmt":"2025-11-13T07:01:12","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.europesays.com\/us\/375389\/"},"modified":"2025-11-13T07:01:12","modified_gmt":"2025-11-13T07:01:12","slug":"nyc-area-hospitals-that-aced-flunked-patient-safety-in-new-rankings","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.europesays.com\/us\/375389\/","title":{"rendered":"NYC-area hospitals that aced, flunked patient safety\u00a0in new rankings"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>Two dozen NYC-area hospitals earned top marks for patient safety \u2014 while six are barely making the grade, <a href=\"https:\/\/www.hospitalsafetygrade.org\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">a new watchdog report card<\/a> shows.<\/p>\n<p>Hospitals overseen by NewYork-Presbyterian, Northwell Health and NYU Langone Health, as well as Mount Sinai Queens, among others, received an \u201cA\u201d safety rating from the Leapfrog Group on Thursday.<\/p>\n<p>Nearly 3,000 US hospitals were scored \u201cA\u201d through \u201cF\u201d based on how well they protect patients from preventable medical errors, accidents, injuries and infections.<\/p>\n<p>NYU Langone\u2019s Manhattan campus and its hospitals in Brooklyn and Long Island scored high in safety in the latest Leapfrog Group report.  Christopher Sadowski<\/p>\n<p>In a statement, NYU Langone Health noted that it\u2019s among just 1% of hospitals nationwide to receive 11 consecutive \u201cA\u201d grades from the Leapfrog Group.<\/p>\n<p>Its \u201cA\u201d rating applies to Tisch Hospital and Kimmel Pavilion in Manhattan, NYU Langone Hospital \u2014Brooklyn and NYU Langone Hospital \u2014 Long Island.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cNYU Langone\u2019s reputation in the communities we serve is built on a foundation of safe, top-quality care, thanks to our teams who put their patients first every day,\u201d said <a href=\"https:\/\/med.nyu.edu\/faculty\/alec-c-kimmelman\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">Dr. Alec C. Kimmelman<\/a>, dean and CEO of NYU Langone Health.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cLeapfrog is one of the best barometers patients can look to in determining where to receive their care, and we are proud of these ratings.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>NewYork-Presbyterian Weill Cornell Medical Center and several other NewYork-Presbyterian hospitals received top marks in the most recent Leapfrog Group report. Robert Miller<\/p>\n<p>Also scoring \u201cA\u201ds were NewYork-Presbyterian Weill Cornell Medical Center, NewYork-Presbyterian Columbia University Irving Medical Center, Northwell Lenox Hill Hospital and Huntington Hospital.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cThe dedication of our outstanding care teams makes this important recognition possible,\u201d NewYork-Presbyterian told The Post.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cSafety is at the core of our mission as caregivers,\u201d the statement read. \u201cWe follow the most rigorous safety protocols across all our campuses, implementing best practices from leading medical societies.\u201d<\/p>\n<p><a href=\"https:\/\/profiles.mountsinai.org\/cameron-r-hernandez\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">Dr. Cameron R. Hernandez,<\/a> president and chief operating officer at Mount Sinai Queens, called the hospital\u2019s \u201cA\u201d grade a \u201ctrue reflection of the exceptional commitment of our Mount Sinai Queens team to patient safety and clinical excellence.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>\u201cEvery member on our staff consistently sets the bar high for quality care, ensuring that every patient who walks through our doors receives the safest and most compassionate treatment possible,\u201d Hernandez told The Post.<\/p>\n<p>New York placed 30th in the US with 23.1% of its hospitals garnering an \u201cA,\u201d a slight change from 31st place in the spring, when 25.2% of the hospitals got an \u201cA.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>The Leapfrog Group\u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/nypost.com\/2024\/05\/01\/health\/8-nyc-hospitals-earn-poor-grades-for-patient-safety-report-card\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">report card is released twice a year<\/a>.<\/p>\n<p>Stony Brook Eastern Long Island Hospital earned a \u201cD\u201d in the latest Leapfrog Group report. Google<\/p>\n<p>In the latest report, the group slapped \u201cD\u201d grades on Brookdale Hospital Medical Center, Interfaith Medical Center and NYC Health + Hospitals\/Kings County and Woodhull facilities in Brooklyn, and St. John\u2019s Episcopal Hospital and Stony Brook Eastern Long Island Hospital on Long Island.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cAt Stony Brook Eastern Long Island Hospital (SBELIH), high-quality and safe patient care remain our top priorities.
