{"id":375852,"date":"2025-11-13T11:50:21","date_gmt":"2025-11-13T11:50:21","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.europesays.com\/us\/375852\/"},"modified":"2025-11-13T11:50:21","modified_gmt":"2025-11-13T11:50:21","slug":"dallas-symphony-to-premiere-new-clarinet-concerto-from-local-composer","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.europesays.com\/us\/375852\/","title":{"rendered":"Dallas Symphony to premiere new clarinet concerto from local composer"},"content":{"rendered":"<p class=\"body-text-paragraph\">Of five new or recent compositions booked on four <a href=\"https:\/\/www.dallasnews.com\/organization\/36b84169-78ae-c661-0f8a-cf2f506e8434\/dallas-symphony-orchestra\/\" target=\"_self\" rel=\"noopener\" title=\"https:\/\/www.dallasnews.com\/organization\/36b84169-78ae-c661-0f8a-cf2f506e8434\/dallas-symphony-orchestra\/\">Dallas Symphony Orchestra<\/a> programs lately, only one is by a Dallas-based composer \u2014 and conceived for a specific DSO musician.<\/p>\n<p class=\"body-text-paragraph\">Jonathan Cziner\u2019s Clarinet Concerto, to be premiered Nov. 20-22, was composed for principal clarinetist <a href=\"https:\/\/www.dallasnews.com\/arts-entertainment\/performing-arts\/2022\/04\/09\/electrifying-symphonie-fantastique-lively-strauss-von-einem-from-fabio-luisi-dallas-symphony\/\" target=\"_self\" rel=\"noopener\" title=\"https:\/\/www.dallasnews.com\/arts-entertainment\/performing-arts\/2022\/04\/09\/electrifying-symphonie-fantastique-lively-strauss-von-einem-from-fabio-luisi-dallas-symphony\/\">Gregory Raden<\/a>, who\u2019ll perform it with music director <a href=\"https:\/\/www.dallasnews.com\/arts-entertainment\/performing-arts\/2025\/02\/28\/the-wizard-of-smell-dallas-symphony-orchestra-conductor-fabio-luisi\/\" target=\"_self\" rel=\"noopener\" title=\"https:\/\/www.dallasnews.com\/arts-entertainment\/performing-arts\/2025\/02\/28\/the-wizard-of-smell-dallas-symphony-orchestra-conductor-fabio-luisi\/\">Fabio Luisi<\/a> conducting. Also on the program are Beethoven\u2019s Leonore Overture No. 3, the sound of where I came from by  Moni Jasmine Guo and Mozart\u2019s Symphony No. 40.<\/p>\n<p class=\"body-text-paragraph\">With a doctorate from the Juilliard School, Cziner (pronounced ZYE-ner) lives in Dallas with his wife, DSO principal harpist <a href=\"https:\/\/www.dallasnews.com\/arts-entertainment\/performing-arts\/2020\/09\/25\/a-most-enjoyable-dallas-symphony-concert\/\" target=\"_self\" rel=\"noopener\" title=\"https:\/\/www.dallasnews.com\/arts-entertainment\/performing-arts\/2020\/09\/25\/a-most-enjoyable-dallas-symphony-concert\/\">Emily Levin<\/a>, and he directs the modern-music series Voices of Change. <\/p>\n<p class=\"body-text-paragraph\">\u201cIt\u2019s certainly influenced by Jewish music,\u201d Cziner says of the concerto, \u201cwith my own kind of American orchestral sound.\u201d The first movement, \u201cMeditation,\u201d accompanies the clarinet with only strings, percussion, harp and celesta.
