Well, apparently, it will, and there might be a good reason for it.

It’s not cost-cutting, as the source originally speculated. Nor is it an aesthetic choice. However, reportedly, the larger Infinity-O display cutout is necessary in order to make a selfie camera upgrade possible.

Galaxy S26 Ultra will take better group selfies

According to a follow-up post from PhoneArt on X, the “real reason” why the camera display cutout is bigger is that Samsung increased the selfie camera’s field of view (FOV) to 85 degrees. Comparatively, the S25 Ultra’s selfie camera has an FOV of 80 degrees.

Thanks to this upgrade, the Galaxy S26 Ultra’s selfie camera has the same FOV as the S25 Ultra’s rear wide camera. The selfie shooter will be able to capture more in the frame, which will make it easier to capture better group selfies.

Of course, the cost of this wider field of view is a larger selfie camera hole in the Galaxy S26 Ultra’s display. But given the substantial camera upgrade, most users will likely consider that a fair trade.

Early Black Friday deals

                            Browse Galaxy S25 offers

Samsung Shop

It’s still unclear whether this selfie camera upgrade will be implemented across the entire Galaxy S26 series or if it will be reserved for the Ultra model. Conversely, it’s unknown if the larger Infinity-O camera cutout will be an Ultra-only characteristic or something that will define the S26 trio.

Aesthetically, the larger Infinity-O camera might even fit the rounder corners better, but that’s something we’ll have to wait and see.

Samsung will unveil the Galaxy S26 series early next year. Recent reports say that the company may host the next big Galaxy Unpacked event in January. The lineup should consist of the base, Plus, and Ultra models. Whether Samsung will release an S26 Edge sequel later in 2026 is unknown.

[7
150411,140512,114876,158,67,132,68
0":"post-376094","1":"post","2":"type-post","3":"status-publish","4":"format-standard","5":"has-post-thumbnail","7":"category-technology","8":"tag-galaxy-s26","9":"tag-galaxy-s26-plus","10":"tag-galaxy-s26-ultra","11":"tag-technology","12":"tag-united-states","13":"tag-unitedstates","14":"tag-us
["GET
