Showers will linger through the weekend with a separate storm arriving early next week. <\/p>\n<p>In the mountains, snow levels will start at 8,000 feet, lowering to 6,000 feet Thursday night into Friday.<\/p>\n<p>Here&#8217;s what drivers should know, whether you&#8217;re on one of LA&#8217;s freeways, canyon roads or mountain passes. <\/p>\n<p>Southern California winter weather driving checklist<\/p>\n<p>The\u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/www.chp.ca.gov\/Documents\/weatherDrivingTips.pdf\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">California Highway Patrol<\/a>\u00a0offers the following advice when the weather turns wet and snowy. Whether it&#8217;s rain, snow, ice or fog, there are a few things to remember on the road.<\/p>\n<p>Check with <a href=\"https:\/\/twitter.com\/Caltrans8\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">Caltrans<\/a> for mountain road closures.<\/p>\n<p><strong>Driving in rain<\/strong><\/p>\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li>The first 10 minutes after the rain begins can be the most dangerous because the rain mixes with oil from motor vehicles and oil from new asphalt resulting in a slippery roadway.<\/li>\n<li>If you start to hydroplane, ease off the accelerator and steer straight until you gain control.<\/li>\n<li>Drive with headlights on.<\/li>\n<li>Apply brakes more slowly.<\/li>\n<li>Leave extra distance between your vehicle and the one ahead of you.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p>Driving in fog<\/p>\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li>Drive with lights on low beam.<\/li>\n<li>Watch for CHP pace vehicles to guide you through fog.<\/li>\n<li>Avoid crossing traffic lanes.<\/li>\n<li>Do not stop on highways except in emergencies.<\/li>\n<li>Move away from stalled or disabled vehicle.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p>Driving in snow<\/p>\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li>Carry chains in snow conditions, even if vehicle has four-wheel drive.<\/li>\n<li>Observe speed limit in chain control areas.<\/li>\n<li>Check owner&#8217;s manual for operating tips on your vehicle&#8217;s braking system.<\/li>\n<li>Watch for paddle-shaped markers.
