BILOXI, Miss. (WLOX) – An apparent meteor was captured on a home security camera in Gulfport Thursday evening. <\/p>\n
James Short sent in a video of what appears to be a shooting star streaking across the sky in Gulfport off Cardinal Lane. He says the incident occurred around 8:25 p.m.<\/p>\n
Around the same time, a phone call to the WLOX Newsroom reported seeing a green streak of light in the sky. <\/p>\n
While it is not certain that this was a meteor, the timing coincides with one of the most famous meteor showers known. <\/p>\n
The Leonid Meteor Shower peaks every November when the earth passes through the dust of comet Tempel-Tuttle. <\/p>\n
According to NASA, the meteor shower is active November 3-December 2, 2025. <\/p>\n
So it is not unheard of to see an uptick in meteor sightings over the next few weeks. <\/p>\n
The peak will occur Sunday night into early Monday morning, November 16-17, 2025.<\/p>\n
Weather pending, about 3 meteors per hour will be visible. However, under optimal conditions, up to 10-15 meteors per hour are possible away from any light pollution and clear atmospheric conditions. <\/p>\n
So, for best viewing, head out of the city limits and head to a dark place to try and catch a glimpse of shooting stars. <\/p>\n
