One of the biggest storylines of the college football season has revolved around the future of polarizing Ole Miss<\/a><\/strong> head coach Lane Kiffin<\/a><\/strong>. He\u2019s the hottest name in the sport.<\/p>\n

Kiffin, who has been with the program since 2020, has the Rebels on the verge of making the College Football Playoff for the first time in school history. Meanwhile, LSU<\/a><\/strong> and Florida<\/a><\/strong> have both parted ways with their head coaches (Brian Kelly<\/a><\/strong> and Billy Napier<\/a><\/strong>) mid-season and reportedly have all eyes on Kiffin as a replacement.<\/p>\n

Ahead of No. 7 Ole Miss<\/strong>\u2018 clash against Florida<\/strong> this Saturday, FOX Sports\u2018 Joel Klatt<\/strong> claims that both Ole Miss<\/strong> and LSU<\/strong> are offering Kiffin a \u2018blank check\u2019 to lead their programs into the future. Klatt also revealed that Florida<\/strong> is not quite in that same boat.<\/p>\n

\u201cThere\u2019s an old coaching adage out there that the quickest way to be defeated is to be distracted,\u201d Klatt said. \u201cI think that the biggest threat to Ole Miss<\/strong> down the stretch is distraction. And that distraction in the form of their future head coach. I don\u2019t know where Lane Kiffin<\/strong> is going to end up. I know that Ole Miss<\/strong> is basically telling him, \u2018Hey, it\u2019s a blank check. You tell us what you need to stay here, and we will do it.\u2019 I have that on good authority.<\/p>\n

\u201cI also have, on pretty good authority, that LSU<\/strong> is prepared to do the same thing for Lane Kiffin<\/strong>. They\u2019ll basically tell him, \u2018The keys are yours.\u2019 Florida<\/strong> is a job that I think Lane would prefer over the other two, from what I\u2019ve been told, and they are not quite in the same boat as Ole Miss<\/strong> and LSU<\/strong> in terms of \u2018here, the sky is yours and name your price.\u2019 There are more strings.\u201d<\/p>\n

Kiffin reveals job status rumors haven\u2019t been brought up this week<\/p>\n

This week means a little bit more to Kiffin and his program, as they fell to Florida<\/strong> 24-17 last season in Gainesville. Because of this, Ole Miss<\/strong>\u2018 head coach revealed during his Monday press conference that those rumors haven\u2019t even come up this week.<\/p>\n

\u201cI haven\u2019t even talked about it to them, and I think I\u2019m pretty close to the players, where they walk by or they say something, you know, like, if it was on their mind, they\u2019d make a joke or something,\u201d\u00a0Kiffin said<\/a>. \u201cI don\u2019t think it is. They\u2019re very focused on what to do.\u201d<\/p>\n

\u201cAgain, I said it\u2019s a different age nowadays, like when I addressed it a couple weeks ago. I certainly don\u2019t think it was a distraction since. We won at\u00a0Oklahoma<\/a><\/strong>,\u00a0South Carolina<\/a><\/strong>, and played really well last week. This is kind of the world that we\u2019re in.\u201d<\/p>\n

Ole Miss<\/strong> has just two games remaining in its season (Florida<\/strong> and Mississippi State<\/a><\/strong>). If they can win both of those games, the Rebels are more than likely in the College Football Playoff.
