The newcomers are pricing others out"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>  Nov. 14, 2025 6:30 AM PT  <\/p>\n<p><b>To the editor<\/b>: Councilmember Nithya Ramen was quoted in the last paragraph of this article saying, \u201cPeople face extraordinary rent increases year after year &#8230; driving people out of the city.\u201d (<a class=\"link\" href=\"https:\/\/www.latimes.com\/california\/story\/2025-11-12\/la-may-cap-rent-increases-in-rent-stabilized-apartments\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">\u201cIn historic vote, L.A. caps rent increases for rent-stabilized apartments at 4%,\u201d<\/a> Nov. 12).<\/p>\n<p>Los Angeles has had rent control for more than 40 years, which has prevented \u201cextraordinary rent increases\u201d across much of the city. The real issue is the demand for housing that\u2019s being driven by people from other states coming into Los Angeles.
