Severe storms have lashed parts of south-east Queensland, providing a spectacular light show as more than 11,000 households lost power.<\/p>\n
An intense storm cell moved over the Brisbane area after 6pm, bringing heavy rain, strong winds and hail while causing delays for Friday evening commuters.<\/p>\n
According to the Energex website, customers in the suburbs of Boondall in Brisbane and Eagleby in Logan were the worst hit, with around 3,000 homes losing supply.<\/p>\n
The storm cell moved north-east over the Brisbane region, heading out to sea.<\/p>\n

There was another cell in the Toowoomba area, also heading north-east. \u00a0\u00a0<\/p>\n
Local residents saw menacing clouds gathering in the late afternoon, with 41.2 millimetres falling in Toowoomba by early evening.<\/p>\n
The other highest totals recorded were the Gold Coast Seaway (27mm), Alexandra Hills (21.4mm) and Wellcamp Airport (20.4mm). Brisbane city recorded 19.5mm, while Brisbane Airport reported 19.3mm.<\/p>\n
Warnings had been issued for Brisbane city and parts of the Toowoomba, Ipswich, Somerset, Lockyer Valley, Redlands and Moreton Bay council areas.<\/p>\n

Bureau of Meteorology (BOM) senior forecaster Felim Hannify described the storms as “short and sharp”.<\/p>\n
