The Shangri-Las were the opening act.<\/p>\n<blockquote class=\"wp-embedded-content\" data-secret=\"S3e2JjQmif\">\n<p><a href=\"https:\/\/www.chicagotribune.com\/2023\/12\/10\/unabomber-chicago-native-ted-kaczynski\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">5 things you might not know about Chicago native Ted Kaczynski \u2014 the \u2018Unabomber\u2019<\/a><\/p>\n<\/blockquote>\n<p><strong>1979:<\/strong> \u201cUnabomber\u201d Ted Kaczynski was later found responsible for a bomb inside a mail pouch that <a href=\"https:\/\/chicagotribune.newspapers.com\/article\/chicago-tribune-bomb-explodes-aboard-oh\/160651237\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">exploded in the cargo hold<\/a> of an American Airlines 727 jet traveling from Chicago to Washington, D.C., forcing an emergency landing at Dulles International Airport. Twelve people suffered smoke inhalation.<\/p>\n<blockquote class=\"wp-embedded-content\" data-secret=\"ka51IdNXuG\">\n<p><a href=\"https:\/\/www.chicagotribune.com\/2024\/04\/24\/chicago-bears-home-game-stadiums\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">From Wrigley Field to Soldier Field: Where the Chicago Bears have played home games since 1921<\/a><\/p>\n<\/blockquote>\n<p><strong>1995:<\/strong>\u00a0A group of Indiana investors proposed a new\u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/chicagotribune.newspapers.com\/article\/chicago-tribune-indiana-makes-its-pitch\/164632542\/\" data-mrf-link=\"https:\/\/chicagotribune.newspapers.com\/article\/chicago-tribune-indiana-makes-its-pitch\/164632542\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">$205 million open-air stadium with 135 luxury skyboxes<\/a> for the Chicago Bears at a site just west of Gary Regional Airport. The \u201cPlanet Park\u201d development would also include a team hall of fame, parking for 25,000 cars, a nine-hole golf course, hotels and a 500,000-square-foot retail shopping area. Chicago Mayor Richard M. Daley said the plan was <a href=\"https:\/\/chicagotribune.newspapers.com\/article\/chicago-tribune-gary-plan-a-far-cry-from\/164632742\/\" data-mrf-link=\"https:\/\/chicagotribune.newspapers.com\/article\/chicago-tribune-gary-plan-a-far-cry-from\/164632742\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">rife with unanswered questions<\/a>: \u201cThey have 25 if\u2019s \u2014 at least.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>The ambitious plan\u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/chicagotribune.newspapers.com\/article\/chicago-tribune-bears-can-forget-about-t\/184695568\/\" data-mrf-link=\"https:\/\/chicagotribune.newspapers.com\/article\/chicago-tribune-bears-can-forget-about-t\/184695568\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">collapsed in early 1996<\/a>\u00a0when members of the Lake County (Indiana) Council announced their intention to \u201cclose the book on a dream\u201d and oppose the local income tax crucial to funding the $312 million stadium plan.<\/p>\n<p><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"lazyautosizes lazyload\" alt=\"Tribune film critics Gene Siskel and Michael Wilmington both gave &quot;Space Jam,&quot; which starred Michael Jordan, at least 3 stars in their November 1996 reviews of the film. (Chicago Tribune)<\/p>\n<p><strong>1996:<\/strong> <a href=\"https:\/\/www.chicagotribune.com\/1996\/11\/15\/review-michael-jordan-delivers-on-screen-in-space-jam\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">\u201cSpace Jam\u201d<\/a> \u2014 starring Looney Tunes characters, Bill Murray and Michael Jordan of the Chicago Bulls as himself \u2014 was released. (Phil Velasquez\/Chicago Tribune)<\/p>\n<p><strong>2002:<\/strong> The Chicago Cubs hired Dusty Baker to take over as team skipper. The four-year deal was believed to be worth $14 million.
