Costco is being sued over its Kirkland Signature tequila.<\/p>\n

The class-action lawsuit<\/a> claims the retailer falsely advertised the product as \u201c100% de Agave\u201d or \u201c100% Blue Agave\u201d when it actually contains \u201ccheaper, non-agave alcohol, misleading consumers across the country.\u201d<\/p>\n

Labeling the product as 100% agave tells customers the tequila was made solely from the Blue Weber agave plant. However, attorneys stated, scientific testing revealed the presence of non-agave sugars in the Kirkland products.<\/p>\n

Lawsuit alleges Kirkland Signature tequila contains other sugars, alcohols<\/p>\n

The complaint<\/a> claims the tequila has significant levels of cane or other types of alcohol, rather than pure tequila.<\/p>\n

\u201cBy falsely branding Kirkland Tequila Products as \u2018100% de Agave,\u2019 or \u2018100% Blue Agave,\u2019 Costco misled consumers, distorted the premium tequila market, and profited from a deception that violates the core principles of consumer protection law,\u201d the lawsuit stated.<\/p>\n

The firm alleges Costco violated the Racketeer Influenced and Corrupt Organizations (RICO) Act and consumer protection laws by deceiving customers.<\/p>\n

Products named in the lawsuit include: Costco Kirkland Blanco Tequila, Costco Kirkland Reposado Tequila, Costco Kirkland A\u00f1ejo Tequila, Costco Kirkland A\u00f1ejo Cristalino Tequila, and Costco Kirkland Tequila Extra A\u00f1ejo.<\/p>\n

More than 10 plaintiffs are seeking monetary damages.<\/p>\n
