{"id":381587,"date":"2025-11-15T21:39:19","date_gmt":"2025-11-15T21:39:19","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.europesays.com\/us\/381587\/"},"modified":"2025-11-15T21:39:19","modified_gmt":"2025-11-15T21:39:19","slug":"gold-coast-schoolies-celebrations-set-to-be-scaled-back-and-subdued","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.europesays.com\/us\/381587\/","title":{"rendered":"Gold Coast Schoolies celebrations set to be scaled back and subdued"},"content":{"rendered":"<p class=\"paragraph_paragraph__iYReA\">Schoolies celebrations on the Gold Coast will be scaled back for the first time this year due to ongoing beach erosion in the wake of Tropical Cyclone Alfred.<\/p>\n<p class=\"paragraph_paragraph__iYReA\">The state government and Gold Coast Council have confirmed graduates will still be able to party on the beach when celebrations kick off next weekend, November 22.<\/p>\n<p class=\"paragraph_paragraph__iYReA\">However, the schoolies hub \u2014 which is a dedicated alcohol-free and drug-free entertainment precinct, set up on the Surfers Paradise beachfront \u2014 will be smaller than previous years due to safety concerns.<\/p>\n<p class=\"paragraph_paragraph__iYReA\">&#8220;The department has been working closely with the City of Gold Coast on the best location for the Schoolies Hub,&#8221; a Queensland government spokesperson said.<\/p>\n<p class=\"paragraph_paragraph__iYReA\">&#8220;On advice from council&#8217;s coastal experts, event infrastructure [including the stage] will be located off the sand.<\/p>\n<p class=\"paragraph_paragraph__iYReA\">&#8220;The safety of young people and the local community remains the highest priority.&#8221;<\/p>\n<p><img decoding=\"async\" alt=\"two maps of surfers paradise\" class=\"Image_image__5tFYM ContentImage_image__DQ_cq\"  src=\"https:\/\/www.europesays.com\/us\/wp-content\/uploads\/2025\/11\/a2729fc9520875a972d7962bc18e4a0b\" loading=\"lazy\" data-component=\"Image\" data-lazy=\"true\"\/><\/p>\n<p class=\"Typography_base__sj2RP FigureCaption_text__zDxQ5 Typography_sizeMobile12__w_FPC Typography_lineHeightMobile20___U7Vr Typography_regular__WeIG6 Typography_colourInherit__dfnUx\" data-component=\"Typography\">A smaller section of Surfers Paradise Beach will be cordoned off for the Schoolies hub (right) compared to previous years (left). (Supplied: Schoolies GC)<\/p>\n<p>&#8216;Fitness for fun&#8217;<\/p>\n<p class=\"paragraph_paragraph__iYReA\">The first Schoolies run club will also be held this year to cater for the growing proportion of school leavers trading hangovers for wholesome daytime activities.<\/p>\n<p class=\"paragraph_paragraph__iYReA\">Red Frogs founder and director Andy Gourley said there had been a &#8220;dramatic change&#8221; in the culture over the past five years.<\/p>\n<p class=\"paragraph_paragraph__iYReA\">&#8220;The key indicator to us were the cafes.
