The Weinsteins, who the f*ck knew what they wanted?\u201d<\/p>\n<p class=\"mb-4 text-lg md:leading-8 break-words\">Sharing that \u201cthere\u2019s images\u201d and \u201cmoments\u201d in Mimic \u201cthat come from that ordeal,\u201d del Toro noted that his Weinstein brothers debacle unfortunately \u201clasted more than 72 days\u201d and was far more unpredictable of a scenario to grapple with than what he had while teaming with Avatar helmer James Cameron to get his father back, in an experience he said bonded the two filmmakers as \u201cbrothers.\u201d<\/p>\n<p class=\"mb-4 text-lg md:leading-8 break-words\">Del Toro was on hand at the DGA Theater to accept Deadline\u2019s inaugural Contenders Hall of Fame Award, as well as to discuss his latest film, Frankenstein, which he said marked the culmination of \u201cmore than 30 years of career and 50 years of obsession.\u201d<\/p>\n<p class=\"mb-4 text-lg md:leading-8 break-words\">During the sit-down, the filmmaker also shared his feelings on artificial intelligence \u2014 the technology poised to disrupt entertainment in innumerable ways \u2014 which he said \u201ccan be summarized as \u2018F*ck AI.&#8217;\u201d<\/p>\n<p class=\"mb-4 text-lg md:leading-8 break-words\">For all he knows, del Toro said, AI \u201cmay be useful for architecture, chemistry, medicine. \u2026 But as far as art, I don\u2019t think any artist raised their hand and said, \u2018Can we have AI?\u2019 I don\u2019t think so.\u201d Comparing the technology to an uninvited party guest, he said AI \u201cknows what has been done; it doesn\u2019t know what to do next. I failed into it; I succeeded into it. My knees hurt; my soul hurts. I have f*cked up enough that I feel the pain of the questions that [Mary Shelley] has.
