Federal judges, however \u2014 in response to lawsuits brought by city and state officials \u2014 had\u00a0so far blocked<\/a>\u00a0federalized National Guard soldiers from actually being deployed on the streets of Portland and Chicago, keeping them in a kind of holding pattern<\/a> while they awaited the legal wrangling of their cases to play out. <\/p>\n The Trump administration on Friday appealed a ruling<\/a>\u00a0to the Supreme Court which permanently barred<\/a> the deployment of National Guard troops in Portland. <\/p>\n The defense official also told CBS News that the number of federalized Oregon National Guard members will be reduced from 200 to 100.
