{"id":383116,"date":"2025-11-16T14:17:11","date_gmt":"2025-11-16T14:17:11","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.europesays.com\/us\/383116\/"},"modified":"2025-11-16T14:17:11","modified_gmt":"2025-11-16T14:17:11","slug":"great-white-shark-quint-becomes-100-apex-predator-tagged-by-ocearch","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.europesays.com\/us\/383116\/","title":{"rendered":"Great white shark Quint becomes 100 apex predator tagged by OCEARCH"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>A 9-foot, 8-inch white <a href=\"https:\/\/nypost.com\/2025\/07\/24\/science\/shark-fears-as-giant-great-white-lurks-dangerously-close-to-east-coast-beaches-trackers\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">shark recently pinged <\/a>off the coast of\u00a0Beaufort,\u00a0North Carolina, and it wasn\u2019t just any shark on the move.<\/p>\n<p>OCEARCH, a global non-profit dedicated to ocean and marine conservation through data collection, routinely tags marine life and tracks their journey in the\u00a0ocean.<\/p>\n<p>The behemoth sub-adult apex predator became the 100th tagged white shark in\u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/www.ocearch.org\/tracker\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">OCEARCH\u2019s Global Shark Tracker<\/a>\u00a0in July, and earned a special name to commemorate the milestone.<\/p>\n<p>Named in honor of Dr. Quinton White of Jacksonville University\u2019s Marine Science Research Insititute, \u201cQuint\u201d was first tagged in Mahone Bay, Nova Scotia and, like many snowbirds this time of year, began his migration south along the East Coast to warmer waters and pinged off of the Carolina Coast on Nov. 14.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cWhen we started, not one white shark had been tagged in the Western North Atlantic by OCEARCH \u2014 and tagging 100 felt impossible. But inch by inch, with grit, teamwork, and belief, we got there,\u201d said Chris Fisher, OCEARCH Founder and Expedition Leader.<\/p>\n<p>Researchers tag a great white shark off the coast of Beaufort, North Carolina.
