Barstool Sports founder Dave Portnoy called for North Carolina head coach Bill Belichick to retire Saturday night amid the Tar Heels\u2019 \u201cdisgusting\u201d 28-12 loss to Wake Forest<\/a>.<\/p>\n

Portnoy took his concerns to X<\/a>, writing that, \u201cBelichick needs to retire. This is disgusting. I\u2019m not even sure he knows the score or where he is.\u201d<\/p>\n

The Tar Heels allowed a touchdown in each quarter, but they didn\u2019t find the end zone themselves.<\/p>\n

Wake Forest wide receiver Carlos Hernandez got his team on the board first by scooping up his teammate\u2019s fumble and racing 50 years to the end zone. <\/p>\n

He also scored in the third quarter on a flea flicker for a 70-yard touchdown.<\/p>\n

All 12 of the Tar Heels\u2019 points were scored by kicker Rece Verhoff, who booted 40-, 57-, 42- and 47-yard field goals.<\/p>\n

Belichick\u2019s first season in Chapel Hill has been filled with controversy and disappointment. <\/p>\n

The Tar Heels are 4-6 and in jeopardy of not becoming bowl eligible for the first time in six years.<\/p>\n

Rumors have swirled about Belichick\u2019s future given North Carolina\u2019s poor on-field performance and the program\u2019s alleged dysfunction. <\/p>\n

Belichick shut down the talk about his potential departure<\/a> last month, saying, in part, \u201cReports about my looking for a buyout or trying to leave her is categorically false.\u201d<\/p>\n

He also reiterated his commitment earlier this week as rumors regarding the Giants and their coaching vacancy swirled<\/a>.<\/p>\n

This isn\u2019t the first time Portnoy has been critical of the legendary coach, who\u2019s won eight Super Bowls, including six at the helm of the Patriots.<\/p>\n

Last month, Portnoy shared his take about Belichick and North Carolina on FOX\u2019 Big Noon Kickoff.<\/p>\n

\u201cI think this experiment will be done. I want Belichick out of college football,\u201d Portnoy said. \u201cHe\u2019s my idol. He won me a ton of Super Bowls. [He\u2019s] not a college guy.\u201d<\/p>\n

Despite how rough the past few months have been for Belichick, it doesn\u2019t appear the 73-year-old doesn\u2019t appear to be going anywhere \u2014 at least not yet.<\/p>\n

North Carolina needs to win its final two games of the season to keep its bowl streak alive.<\/p>\n
