The modern Happy Gilmore family is back.<\/p>\n
Julie Bowen <\/a>is shocked that she\u2019s making her return as Virginia Venit in \u201cHappy Gilmore 2.\u201d<\/a><\/p>\n \u201cI didn\u2019t think they\u2019d bring me back at all,\u201d\u00a0the actress, 55,\u00a0revealed to Michael Rosenbaum\u00a0on Tuesday\u2019s episode of his\u00a0\u201cInside of You\u201d<\/a>\u00a0podcast.<\/p>\n Julie Bowen on the \u201cInside of You\u201d podcast. Inside of You with Michael Rosenbaum<\/p>\n \u201cI mean, who am I supposed to be?\u201d Bowen asked. \u201cHe\u2019s got to have a younger woman in this one, \u2018Happy Gilmore 2.’\u201d<\/p>\n The \u201cModern Family\u201d vet<\/a> portrayed a public relations golf tour rep in the 1996 sports comedy. She and Adam Sandler\u2019s Happy Gilmore fall in love after she teaches him how to act in public.<\/p>\n Sandler, 58, Ben Stiller, 59, and Christopher McDonald, 70, are also back for the sequel.<\/p>\n Julie Bowen talks \u201cHappy Gilmore 2.\u201d Inside of You with Michael Rosenbaum<\/p>\n Bowen wasn\u2019t sure she\u2019d even make the cut for \u201cHappy Gilmore\u201d in 1996. In fact, she was convinced they\u2019d hire a \u201chot girl\u201d to play Virginia.<\/p>\n \u201cI read and they were relieved,\u201d the \u201cEd\u201d actor recalled. \u201cThey were visibly relieved. I go, \u2018What\u2019s going on?\u2019 They\u2019re like, \u2018Yeah, some of these girls are just so aggressively sexy.\u2019 And I was like, \u2018That\u2019s a bad thing?\u2019\u201d<\/p>\n This time around, Bowen admits she\u2019s not on screen as much as she is in the original film.<\/p>\n Adam Sandler, Julie Bowen, Christopher McDonald and Rich Eisen speak onstage during Netflix Tudum 2025. He\u2019s got some little bitty on the side, like a cart girl.\u201d<\/p>\n Her sons \u2014 Oliver, 18, and 16-year-old twins John and Gustav \u2014 agreed.<\/p>\n Christopher McDonald, Julie Bowen, Adam Sandler in \u201cHappy Gilmore.\u201d \u00a9Universal\/Courtesy Everett Collection<\/p>\n \u201cAs a matter of fact, my children told me, before I was even told officially that there was a\u00a0\u2018Happy Gilmore\u2019\u00a0sequel, my now 18-year-old said, \u2018Mom, I hear they\u2019re doing a sequel and he\u2019s with\u00a0Sydney Sweeney\u00a0as a cart girl.\u2019 \u201d<\/p>\n \u201cI went, I\u2019m hurt and I so respect that move,\u201d she teased. \u201cOf course, why wouldn\u2019t you? So when I got the call that I was actually in it, I was like, \u2018Are you sure? I\u2019m the kind of person who doesn\u2019t want to meet her heroes because I think I\u2019m just going to be a jackass.\u201d<\/p>\n
