Watch veterans share experiences with students at Ossining High School<\/p>\n

In honor of Veterans Day, Ossining NY High School hosts Invite a Veteran to School Day, Nov. 10, 2025. [Tania Savayan\/lohud]<\/p>\n

On the day before Veterans Day, local veterans and students connected through conversation at the annual Invite a Veteran to School Day at Ossining High School<\/a>.<\/p>\n

Event organizer Ron Whitehead, an art teacher and Army veteran who served in Desert Storm, said the relaxed atmosphere makes it comfortable for the veterans to engage with the students. \u201cIt’s not a movie. It’s not, you know, something just written in a book. It’s a living history,\u201d said Whitehead.<\/p>\n

Veterans were stationed throughout the library with photographs and military memorabilia, prepared to answer questions and share their experiences. Students learned what the veterans\u2019 lives were like before and during their service in the military, as well as their career paths after serving.<\/p>\n

\u201cI thought that hearing a veteran\u2019s story firsthand was very educational,\u201d said junior Antonia Fortuna. “I think it’s just a really great opportunity to get to know some of the veterans and appreciate what they’ve done for us.\u201d<\/p>\n
