Israeli President Isaac Herzog said he met New York Mayor Eric Adams on Monday, during Adams’ trip to Israel. <\/a><\/p>\n

“You are a dear, dear friend of Israel and the Jewish people,” the president said he told Adams. “We will never forget your moving words and solidarity on October 7. … The fact that you’re here now means a lot to us.”<\/p>\n

“As you know, we are worried about how things will look post the mayoral elections in New York,” the president said, seemingly referencing Mayor-Elect Zohran Mamdani,<\/a> who critics describe as anti-Israel. “So I thank you for your friendship and solidarity, and I wish you great success in all your endeavors. This is your home.”<\/p>\n

Adams said in response that “49 percent of New Yorkers made it clear that they don’t embrace the philosophy of anti-Israel. … I’m here today as I leave office to state I would not be leaving my advocacy for Israel and for the Jewish people.”<\/p>\n

Adams, the first sitting N.Y.C mayor to face criminal charges, ran for reelection as an independent – eventually abandoning the race amid corruption allegations<\/a>.
