The LG is acting like a candidate even if he hasn’t officially launched a bid.<\/p>\n

While Lt. Gov.\u00a0Jay Collins<\/strong> hasn\u2019t formally declared<\/a><\/strong> a run for Governor, he is spending the early part of this week road-testing messaging.<\/p>\n

Collins, a Tampa Republican, will address the Republican Party of Duval County<\/a><\/strong> Monday in a \u201cfireside chat\u201d during the group\u2019s monthly meeting at the Salem Centre.<\/p>\n

Some portion of that event will be recorded for future broadcast.<\/p>\n

Only registered Republicans will be allowed to attend.<\/p>\n

On Tuesday evening, he will talk to the Jax Beaches Women\u2019s Republican Club<\/a><\/strong>. At this writing, the event has 63 registered attendees, and 31 spots are available at $25 a person.<\/p>\n

The cover charge is because the venue won\u2019t serve the general public while Collins is there.<\/p>\n

\u201cFor the security of our Lt. Governor, Strings has to close for the evening. They will be providing food buffet-style at $25 per person,\u201d the event page explains.<\/p>\n

Collins has struggled in public polls<\/a><\/strong> of the still-nascent Republican field to succeed Gov. Ron DeSantis<\/strong><\/a>.<\/p>\n

Collins is at 1% in a survey from Victory Insights<\/a><\/strong> and at 4% in one from St. Pete Polls<\/b><\/a>.<\/p>\n

However, his formal entry into the race might galvanize the DeSantis political machine into helping him become better known statewide as the best person to continue the Governor\u2019s approach to leading the state.<\/p>\n
