NORRISTOWN \u2014 A Philadelphia man who robbed another man of his cellphone as the victim sat on his front porch in Norristown was sent to prison.<\/p>\n
Naquin Namir Mitchell, 24, of the 3900 block of Howland Street, was sentenced in Montgomery County Court to 3-to-6-years in a state correctional facility after he pleaded guilty to a felony charge of robbery in connection with the June 2025 incident.<\/p>\n
Judge William R. Carpenter, who accepted a plea agreement in the case, also ordered Mitchell to complete one year of probation consecutive to parole, meaning Mitchell will be under court supervision for seven years.<\/p>\n
The judge ordered Mitchell to have no contact with the victim.<\/p>\n
By pleading guilty to the robbery charge, Mitchell admitted that during the course of committing a theft, he intentionally put the victim in fear of immediate serious bodily injury.<\/p>\n
The investigation began about 8:17 a.m. June 11, 2025, when Norristown police were dispatched to a residence in the 600 block of Haws Avenue for a report of a theft in progress.<\/p>\n
The male victim told police that he was sitting on his front porch when he was approached by a man, subsequently identified as Mitchell, who demanded that the victim \u201crun his pockets\u201d as he reached to the rear of his waistband. Mitchell\u2019s action caused the victim \u201cto believe the suspect was armed,\u201d according to the criminal complaint filed by Norristown Detective Joshua Samuels.<\/p>\n
\u201cFearing for his safety, (the victim) surrendered his Samsung Galaxy S20 Ultra to the suspect, who then fled on foot,\u201d Samuels alleged.<\/p>\n
Authorities were able to track the phone to the corner of Haws Avenue and Marshall Street and later to Haws Avenue and Blackberry Alley. Detectives subsequently took Mitchell into custody later on June 11.<\/p>\n
When questioned by police, Mitchell admitted to taking the victim\u2019s cellphone and latter discarding it near the intersection of Stanbridge and Main streets, according to the criminal complaint.<\/p>\n
