{"id":385992,"date":"2025-11-17T20:41:09","date_gmt":"2025-11-17T20:41:09","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.europesays.com\/us\/385992\/"},"modified":"2025-11-17T20:41:09","modified_gmt":"2025-11-17T20:41:09","slug":"bernie-kosar-says-he-will-receive-a-liver-transplant-monday-morning","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.europesays.com\/us\/385992\/","title":{"rendered":"Bernie Kosar says he will receive a liver transplant Monday morning"},"content":{"rendered":"<p class=\"EkqkG IGXmU nlgHS yuUao MvWXB TjIXL aGjvy ebVHC \">CLEVELAND &#8212; Bernie Kosar is scheduled to receive a liver transplant Monday morning.<\/p>\n<p class=\"EkqkG IGXmU nlgHS yuUao lqtkC TjIXL aGjvy \">The former University of Miami and Cleveland Browns star quarterback shared the good news in a <a class=\"zZygg UbGlr iFzkS qdXbA WCDhQ DbOXS tqUtK GpWVU iJYzE \" data-testid=\"prism-linkbase\" href=\"https:\/\/x.com\/BernieKosarQB\/status\/1990234737240158510\">social media post<\/a> Sunday night. <\/p>\n<p class=\"EkqkG IGXmU nlgHS yuUao lqtkC TjIXL aGjvy \">\u201cThank you all for the thoughts, prayers, and support \u2014 it truly means the world to me,\u201d Kosar said in the post from his hospital bed.<\/p>\n<p class=\"EkqkG IGXmU nlgHS yuUao lqtkC TjIXL aGjvy \">The 61-year-old Kosar was set to receive a liver transplant last weekend, but said that it was delayed because the donor\u2019s organ was infected.<\/p>\n<p class=\"EkqkG IGXmU nlgHS yuUao lqtkC TjIXL aGjvy \">During the past week, he has undergone five procedures to stop internal bleeding.<\/p>\n<p class=\"EkqkG IGXmU nlgHS yuUao lqtkC TjIXL aGjvy \">Kosar told <a class=\"zZygg UbGlr iFzkS qdXbA WCDhQ DbOXS tqUtK GpWVU iJYzE \" data-testid=\"prism-linkbase\" href=\"https:\/\/clevelandmagazine.com\/in-the-cle\/people\/articles\/bernie-kosar-facing-liver-transplant-early-parkinsons\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">Cleveland Magazine<\/a> last year that he had been diagnosed with cirrhosis of the liver and Parkinson\u2019s disease.<\/p>\n<p class=\"EkqkG IGXmU nlgHS yuUao lqtkC TjIXL aGjvy \">The Youngstown, Ohio, native recalled being bothered by liver-related issues for years but brushed them off because he wasn\u2019t sure of the source. A diagnosis of cirrhosis in late 2023 confirmed the specificity and severity of his condition.<\/p>\n<p class=\"EkqkG IGXmU nlgHS yuUao lqtkC TjIXL aGjvy \">Kosar played in the NFL for 12 seasons after leading the University of Miami to its first national championship during the 1983 season. He grew up rooting for the Browns, who selected him in the 1985 NFL supplemental draft. <\/p>\n<p class=\"EkqkG IGXmU nlgHS yuUao lqtkC TjIXL aGjvy \">Kosar played for the Browns from 1985-93, leading the franchise to three AFC championship game appearances (1986, \u201987 and \u201989), losing each time to the Denver Broncos. Kosar is third all-time in franchise history with 21,904 passing yards. <\/p>\n<p class=\"EkqkG IGXmU nlgHS yuUao lqtkC TjIXL aGjvy \">After being released by the Browns, Kosar joined the Dallas Cowboys for the remainder of the 1993 season and got a Super Bowl ring.
