\t\t\t\t\t\t\tSince 1945, the Alamo Colleges District <\/a>has provided post-secondary education opportunities in the San Antonio area.<\/p>\n

The district began with two campuses and, by the end of 2025, has five campuses educating more than 80,000 students each year.<\/p>\n

Put into perspective<\/strong><\/p>\n

Chancellor Mike Flores said the district began with the union of San Antonio College and St. Phillips College, originally named the San Antonio Union Junior College District.<\/p>\n

Over time, three additional campuses were developed, serving communities on the Northeast, Northwest and South sides of the San Antonio region, which includes Bexar County and seven surrounding counties.<\/p>\n

Flores said the district’s primary goal is to serve the community with education and resources at an approachable cost. Alamo Promise was launched in 2019 to help provide no-cost education to students in need.<\/p>\n

\u201cAt $3,000 a year to come full-time to Alamo Colleges, that still is a barrier for many of our individuals and families,\u201d he said.<\/p>\n

Academic programs have also expanded over the years, with the district now offering four bachelor’s degree programs<\/a>, including operations management, nursing, cybersecurity and cloud computing.<\/p>\n

\u201cFor 80 years, Alamo Colleges has continued to respond and meet the needs of our growing community,\u201d Flores said.<\/p>\n

Looking ahead<\/strong><\/p>\n

The district continues to grow across the region, with multiple campus expansions planned in the next few years.<\/p>\n

In Boerne, the Northwest Education and Training Center<\/a> will be a 42,000-square-foot facility with 11 classrooms and approximately 12 lab areas, according to information from the Alamo Colleges District.<\/p>\n

Through business and community partnerships, the NWTC will serve as a resource for the local community by offering general business and leadership services for local employers, according to its website.<\/p>\n

In New Braunfels, Northeast Lakeview College<\/a> purchased the former PNC Bank building located at 2049 Sundance Parkway. Upon completion of the facility, the college site at the Central Texas Technology Center will be relocated. The campus is expected to open in 2026.<\/p>\n

Flores said district leaders want to build additional programs and facilities in growing areas and counties surrounding the San Antonio region to provide services to communities that need education opportunities.<\/p>\n

\u201cIt is eight decades of impacting and changing individuals\u2019 lives for the better,\u201d Flores said. \u201cAnd we are looking towards the future to see how we can be more impactful to the neighbors in our community.\u201d<\/p>\n
