\n\tDinosaurs are ruling the box office<\/a> heading into the Fourth of July holiday weekend. <\/p>\n

\n\t\u201cJurassic World Rebirth<\/a>\u201d topped ticket sales on Thursday, its second full day of release, earning a commanding $25.3 million to bring its domestic total to $55.8 million. The Universal release is on track to earn $137.5 million\u00a0over its first five days of release. It\u2019s a strong result, positioning \u201cJurassic World Rebirth\u201d to be one of the summer\u2019s bigger hits. However, it\u2019s worth noting that the sequel\u2019s earnings can\u2019t match the debuts of more recent films in the series. \u201cJurassic World Rebirth\u201d is no match for 2015\u2019s \u201cJurassic World,\u201d which rebooted the franchise while earning a massive $208 million in its opening weekend. Other entries also eclipsed \u201cRebirth\u2019s\u201d initial results \u2014 2018\u2019s \u201cJurassic World Fallen Kingdom\u201d bowed to $148 million and 2022\u2019s \u201cJurassic World Dominion\u201d premiered to $145 million. Moreover, those \u201cJurassic\u201d films put up those bigger numbers during their first three days in theaters, not over a five-day holiday. \u201cJurassic World Rebirth\u201d is expected to earn roughly $82 million of its holiday gross over its opening weekend.<\/p>\n

\n\t\u00a0The latest \u201cJurassic\u201d adventure follows Scarlett Johansson<\/a>,\u00a0Mahershala Ali<\/a> and Jonathan Bailey as they tangle with an island-worth of man-eating prehistoric beasts while searching for biomaterial that can be used to develop a wonder drug. It\u2019s really just an excuse to see a mutated T-Rex sink its pearly whites into some poor sucker\u2019s flesh.\u00a0<\/p>\n

\n\tGareth Edwards, whose previous films include \u201cRogue One: A Star Wars Story\u201d and \u201cGodzilla,\u201d directed the latest \u201cJurassic World,\u201d with David Koepp, the writer of 1993\u2019s \u201cJurassic Park,\u201d handling screenplay duties. Universal spent $180 million to make \u201cJurassic World Rebirth,\u201d plus tens of millions more to market the film. It\u2019s a lot of money, but the film was less expensive than \u201cDominion,\u201d which cost $250 million and change to produce. Universal is betting \u201cJurassic World Rebirth\u201d will excite audiences and launch another trilogy of films, extending the life span of a 32-year-old film series. Franchises find a way<\/a>.<\/p>\n

\n\t\u201cJurassic World Rebirth\u201d is the weekend\u2019s only major new release.
