A new book is pulling back the curtain on some of Broadway\u2019s most storied theaters.<\/p>\n
\u201cHistory Hiding Around Broadway\u201d reveals the hidden stories, ghosts and backstage secrets tucked inside New York\u2019s historic venues.<\/p>\n
Written by longtime dresser and Broadway tour guide Teale Dvornik, the book blends historical research with her backstage experience on shows like \u201cWicked\u201d and \u201cAladdin.\u201d<\/p>\n
One chapter recounts the legend of Olive Thomas, whose ghost is said to haunt the New Amsterdam Theatre.<\/p>\n
Dvornik said she set out to capture the magic that keeps audiences returning to live theater.<\/p>\n
\u201cI love Broadway because it’s just pure magic. It’s a bunch of people sitting in a room accepting the willing suspension of disbelief,\u201d she said. \u201cThey’re all in there experiencing this magical thing that may never be the same ever again, every performance is a little bit different from the other. It\u2019s live theater, it’s live art\u2014there’s just nothing like it in the world.”<\/p>\n
