The Maverick Terry Scholars are collecting donations throughout the week for the annual toy drive to support families in the Arlington area who may not be able to afford Christmas gifts. <\/p>\n

In partnership with the Arlington Police Department, the group is accepting monetary donations and new packaged toys on campus from 9 a.m. to 4 p.m. Monday through Friday across campus. <\/p>\n

The drive will run from Monday through Wednesday at the Central Library\u2019s east entrance and then move to the University Center\u2019s west entrance Thursday and Friday. Students, faculty and staff are encouraged to stop by and contribute. <\/p>\n

Jacqueline Olivares, a graphic design sophomore and service chair for the Maverick Terry Scholars, said the donors will receive candy as a small thank you gift. The group is also incorporating decorative themes for their booths to draw more attention, she said. <\/p>\n

The funds raised will be used to purchase toys that the Arlington Police Department will distribute to local families in need. <\/p>\n

Olivares said the partnership with the police department began several years ago and has become a recurring tradition. <\/p>\n

\u201cIt is important to be able to think about our community and just give back to it, even if it’s just with toys or just helping a certain group,\u201d Olivares said. <\/p>\n
