{"id":388289,"date":"2025-11-18T20:01:14","date_gmt":"2025-11-18T20:01:14","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.europesays.com\/us\/388289\/"},"modified":"2025-11-18T20:01:14","modified_gmt":"2025-11-18T20:01:14","slug":"ny-ag-tish-james-says-lindsey-halligan-might-have-botched-her-grand-jury-indictment","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.europesays.com\/us\/388289\/","title":{"rendered":"NY AG Tish James says Lindsey Halligan might have botched her grand jury indictment"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>New York Attorney General Letitia James wants the details of Lindsey Halligan\u2019s interactions to the grand jury that indicted her \u2014 after a <a href=\"https:\/\/nypost.com\/2025\/11\/17\/us-news\/judge-orders-doj-to-turn-over-grand-jury-transcript-to-comey-lawyers\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">judge found \u201cprofound investigative missteps\u201d<\/a> with Halligan\u2019s handling of the case against ex FBI director James Comey.<\/p>\n<p>James wants prosecutors in the US Attorney\u2019s Office for the Eastern District of Virginia, helmed by ex White House aide Halligan, to turn over certain records from the grand jury that indicted her for bank fraud charges tied to claims she lied on documents for a mortgage on a second home in Virginia.<\/p>\n<p>Letitia James wants to know if prosecutor Lindsey Halligan botched the grand jury proceedings for her bank fraud indictment. Robert Miller<\/p>\n<p>The request came after US Magistrate Judge William Fitzpatrick found in a Monday ruling that Halligan, President Trump\u2019s hand-picked prosecutor in the key district, made \u201cfundamental misstatements of the law\u201d in front of a grand jury that indicted former-FBI boss Comey for allegedly lying to Congress.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cAs in the case of James Comey, this Court should review the entirety of the grand jury transcripts and the audio recording of proceedings in Alexandria to assess whether any similar misstatements of the law occurred that could compromise the integrity of the grand jury process in this case,\u201d James\u2019 lawyer, Andrew Bosse, wrote in papers later Monday.<\/p>\n<p>AG James says a ruling in the case of ex-FBI Director James Comey finding Halligan made missteps in the grand jury, should prompt a look into the grand jury in her case. AP<\/p>\n<p>James\u2019 side also wants to review parts of the grand jury proceeding to verify everything was done by the book.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cTo ensure that an unbiased and properly charged grand jury was empaneled and proper procedures in the grand jury room were followed, AG James seeks disclosure of the aforementioned four narrow categories of grand jury material,\u201d Bosse wrote.<\/p>\n<p>James is slated to go on trial on Jan. 26 but she is seeking to get her case thrown out on multiple grounds including, the <a href=\"https:\/\/nypost.com\/2025\/11\/13\/us-news\/ny-ag-tish-james-lawyers-in-virginia-fed-to-argue-prosecutor-lindsey-halligan-was-wrongfully-appointed\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">alleged unlawful appointment of Halligan<\/a>, vindictive prosecution and for outrageous government conduct.<\/p>\n<p>\t\t\t\t\t\t\tStart your day with all you need to know\t\t\t\t\t\t<\/p>\n<p class=\"inline-module__cta\">\n\t\t\t\t\t\t\tMorning Report delivers the latest news, videos, photos and more.\t\t\t\t\t\t<\/p>\n<p>\t\t\t\t\t\tThanks for signing up!\n\t\t\t\t<\/p>\n<p>New York\u2019s top law enforcer <a href=\"https:\/\/nypost.com\/2025\/10\/09\/us-news\/ny-ag-letitia-james-indicted-over-mortgage-fraud-claims-source\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">is charged related to her purchase of a three-bedroom<\/a>, one-bathroom home in Norfolk on Aug. 17, 2020, using a $109,600 loan. She is accused of lying on a rider attesting that the home was primarily for her own use, and that she would not rent it out.<\/p>\n<p>However, prosecutors say she moved her grandniece in and received rental income. <\/p>\n<p>She has pleaded not guilty.<\/p>\n<p>Interim US Attorney for the Eastern District of Virginia Lindsey Halligan was blasted in a ruling Monday for allegedly making misstatements of the law to a grand jury in Comey\u2019s case.
