Kroger<\/a> is closing three facilities, bringing major changes to the grocery chain’s presence in Florida.<\/p>\n

While there are no physical Kroger locations in Florida, it does have a fulfillment center<\/a>, through which Florida residents can order groceries and have them delivered. A Tuesday announcement about closures included the end of its fulfillment center in Groveland<\/a>, and subsequently the delivery program available throughout Florida.<\/p>\n

Here’s what you should know about Kroger closing three facilities<\/a>.<\/p>\n

What is Kroger closing?<\/p>\n

“Following a comprehensive review, Kroger identified opportunities to optimize its fulfillment network by closing facilities” in the Frederick, Maryland; Groveland, Florida; and Pleasant Prairie, Wisconsin, the company announced.<\/p>\n

As a result, Florida “spoke facilities,” including one in Jacksonville, will also close, ending grocery delivery in the state.<\/p>\n

When will the Florida Kroger robotic warehouse close?<\/p>\n

Kroger said the three robotic warehouses, also called fulfillment centers, including the one in Florida, will close in January.<\/p>\n

How many Kroger stores are there?<\/p>\n

Kroger has 1,238 grocery stores in 16 states<\/a>, but Florida is not one of them.<\/p>\n

In Florida, Kroger operates the Groveland fulfillment center and what are called “spoke facilities<\/a>” in Tampa, Jacksonville and Cocoa Beach.<\/p>\n

At the time of its opening in 2021, the Jacksonville spoke facility was set to employ 180 people. It is unclear how many currently work there.<\/p>\n

Groveland is located in Central Florida, about 25 miles northwest of Orlando, 60 miles northeast of Tampa or 60 miles southwest of Daytona Beach.<\/p>\n

Did Kroger stop deliveries in South Florida?<\/p>\n

The grocery chain announced earlier this year it would stop deliveries in South Florida<\/a>\u00a0beginning May 25.<\/p>\n

At that time, a 60,000-square-foot spoke facility\u00a0was planned to work in conjunction with the Groveland fulfillment center to\u00a0serve communities between Port St. Lucie and Homestead<\/a>.<\/p>\n

In its announcement on the closures, Kroger said updates to its eCommerce plan should be “a differentiated and simplified customer experience<\/a>, new households shopping at Kroger and immediate eCommerce profitability improvements.”<\/p>\n

The company “expects to improve eCommerce<\/a> profitability by approximately $400 million in 2026.”<\/p>\n

As of November 2025, \u00a0eight of Kroger’s robotic warehouses,<\/a> or customer fulfilment centers, had gone live. Three are now slated for closure.<\/p>\n

Will Kroger close more fulfillment centers?<\/p>\n

Kroger said it will be “monitoring the remaining facilities’ performance<\/a>.”<\/p>\n

“In geographies where Kroger sees higher density of demand, <\/a>the company will continue to take advantage of automated customer fulfillment to increase customer engagement, capacity and improve productivity and profitability.”<\/p>\n
