{"id":388924,"date":"2025-11-19T02:29:15","date_gmt":"2025-11-19T02:29:15","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.europesays.com\/us\/388924\/"},"modified":"2025-11-19T02:29:15","modified_gmt":"2025-11-19T02:29:15","slug":"scottsdale-city-council-approves-plan-to-allow-axon-to-build-headquarters","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.europesays.com\/us\/388924\/","title":{"rendered":"Scottsdale City Council approves plan to allow Axon to build headquarters"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>SCOTTSDALE, AZ \u2014 The Scottsdale City Council has approved a compromise plan that will allow Axon to build its world headquarters in the city after months of controversy regarding the proposed development.<\/p>\n<p>The vote at Monday night&#8217;s city council meeting was 3-3 in favor of the memorandum of understanding (MOU), with Mayor Lisa Borowsky breaking the tie.<\/p>\n<p>The compromise allows Axon to move forward with their planned headquarters, allowing them to build 600 apartment units and 600 condos over two construction phases.<\/p>\n<p>That&#8217;s less than the originally proposed project to build almost 1,900 units.<\/p>\n<p>The headquarters will also include an office headquarters, a manufacturing facility, and a hotel and commercial space.<\/p>\n<p>Axon is now required to sign the MOU by the end of the day on Wednesday.<\/p>\n<p>This vote comes after months of controversy regarding Axon&#8217;s planned headquarters near Loop 101 and Hayden Road.<\/p>\n<p>Axon was originally scheduled to break ground on their new headquarters in January, but they postponed the groundbreaking <a class=\"Link\" href=\"https:\/\/www.abc15.com\/news\/region-northeast-valley\/scottsdale\/axon-halts-scottsdale-headquarters-groundbreaking\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\">after a petition was submitted to put the project up for a vote.<\/a><\/p>\n<p>Although the ballot referendum received enough signatures, <a class=\"Link\" href=\"https:\/\/www.abc15.com\/news\/region-northeast-valley\/scottsdale\/arizona-house-passes-bill-to-block-scottsdale-vote-on-axon-headquarters-project\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\">state lawmakers stepped in and passed a bill<\/a> to help keep Axon in Arizona, which governor Katie Hobbs eventually signed.<\/p>\n<p>At one point, tensions between Axon and city leaders that <a class=\"Link\" href=\"https:\/\/www.abc15.com\/news\/region-northeast-valley\/scottsdale\/axon-pulls-plans-to-build-its-headquarters-in-scottsdale-president-announces\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\">negotiations stopped altogether between the two sides<\/a>.<\/p>\n<p>The city also considered <a class=\"Link\" href=\"https:\/\/www.abc15.com\/news\/region-northeast-valley\/scottsdale\/scottsdale-mayor-expects-to-sue-state-over-axon-bill-still-hopes-for-agreement-with-company\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\">suing the state of Arizona<\/a> over the bill to prevent having an election over the proposed development.<\/p>\n<p>After the vote, Axon released the following statement:<\/p>\n<p>&#8220;Thank you to Scottsdale Mayor Lisa Borowsky, Vice Mayor Adam Kwasman, and Councilors Solange Whitehead and Mary Ann McAllen for supporting a fair compromise for all parties regarding the new Axon global headquarters. And thank you to the thousands of Scottsdale residents who helped make our project better with their feedback.<\/p>\n<p>We are very excited to move forward with our new headquarters.
