ALBANY, N.Y. (WCAX) – New York republicans are standing together to condemn what they call gov. Kathy Hochul\u2019s \u201cburdensome\u201d gas stove ban and \u201call-electric mandate.\u201d<\/p>\n
On Tuesday, representatives Elise Stefanik and Nick Langworthy joined with members of the New York state congressional delegation and the assembly republican conference.<\/p>\n
They\u2019re pushing for a new federal bill, the \u2018Energy Choice Act\u2019 \u2014 this measure would prohibit states or local governments from banning or limiting the use of a specific energy service.<\/p>\n
This is in response to Hochul\u2019s proposed ban on fossil fuel heating equipment.<\/p>\n
New York republicans believe this would deepen the state\u2019s affordability and energy crisis and jeopardize residents\u2019 safety.<\/p>\n
\u201cGas stoves and gas fireplaces literally save lives in communities like ours,\u201d said Longworthy.<\/p>\n
\u201cN.Y. families deserve affordable, reliable energy, not at higher and higher costs from Kathy Hochul,\u201d said Stefanik.<\/p>\n
Langworthy\u2019s bill is currently in the House Energy and Commerce Committee and has bipartisan support from 123 lawmakers.<\/p>\n
He says it will come to the floor for a vote sometime after Thanksgiving.<\/p>\n
