Her Place Supper Club, Friday Saturday Sunday, and Provenance in Philadelphia received their first Michelin stars<\/a> at a ceremony Tuesday night.<\/p>\n

This is the first time any restaurant in the city has received the prestigious distinction.<\/p>\n

Her Place’s chefs are Amanda Shulman and Alex Kemp. Friday Saturday Sunday is led by Chad and Hanna Williams. Nicholas Bazik is the chef at Provenance.<\/p>\n

Shulman said the menu at Her Place Supper Club changes every three weeks, and this honor was the last thing she expected.\u00a0<\/p>\n

“I don’t want to single myself out as elite because when I was having my own thoughts about who I thought was going to be recognized, I didn’t see myself winning a star,” Shulman said.\u00a0<\/p>\n

Pietramala<\/a>, a vegan restaurant in Philadelphia, earned a Green star award for dedication to sustainability. Pietramala works with local organic farms and works with producers to reduce waste.<\/p>\n

These Philadelphia restaurants were also added to the Michelin Recommended list: Ambra, Forsythia, Hiroki, High Street, Honeysuckle, Illata, Kalaya, Laser Wolf, Laurel, Little Water, Mish Mish, My Loup, River Twice, Pietramala, Roxanne, Southwark, Suraya, Vedge, Vernick Food & Drink, Vetri Cucina, and Zahav.<\/p>\n

Inspectors noted Friday Saturday Sunday’s dishes “fill the mouth with flavor and succulence” and said the restaurant offers an atmosphere “as spirited as the food.” They also praised the communal feel at Her Place and said Shulman’s sauces are especially strong.\u00a0<\/p>\n

Inspectors admired the “high-wire, high-stakes performance defined by precision, harmony, and, of course, taste” at Provenance as well.<\/p>\n

City leaders say these honors cement Philadelphia’s reputation as a culinary destination<\/p>\n

“This puts Philadelphia on the global map for our cuisine,” Mayor Cherelle Parker said.\u00a0<\/p>\n

Which Philadelphia restaurants got Michelin’s Bib Gourmand Award?<\/p>\n

Angelo’s, Dalessandro’s, Del Rossi’s, Dizengoff, El Chingon, Fiorella, 4th Street Deli, Pizzeria Beddia, Royal Sushi & Izakaya, and Sally won the Bib Gourmand<\/a>\u00a0Award, which recognizes standout restaurants that serve meals at affordable prices.\u00a0 <\/p>\n

In May, Michelin and the Philadelphia Convention and Visitors Bureau revealed inspectors were combing the city<\/a> and local restaurants could be considered for stars this year. This is also Boston’s first year being included in the guide.<\/p>\n

The recognition for Philly’s food scene comes ahead of year packed with events in Philly, including celebrations for the country’s 250th birthday<\/a> and several sporting events, including the MLB All-Star Game<\/a>\u00a0and FIFA World Cup matches<\/a>.<\/p>\n

What is a Michelin star?<\/p>\n

A Michelin star<\/a> is awarded to a restaurant for “outstanding cooking,” according to the website.<\/p>\n

Michelin says its anonymous inspectors visit restaurants around the world and assess the restaurant’s adherence to five criteria: product quality, mastery of cooking techniques, harmony of flavors, the personality of the chef shown in the cuisine, and consistency over time and across the whole menu.<\/p>\n

Restaurants can be awarded up to three stars, and the guide is updated once a year.<\/p>\n
