JACKSON, MI \u2013 To cut down on disruptive deer-human behavior, the city will harvest deer in two major parks.<\/p>\n
The Jackson City Council unanimously approved a contract with Aaron\u2019s Nuisance Animal Control to harvest deer in Ella Sharp Park, 3225 Fourth St., and Sparks Foundation County Park, 1528 Kibby Road. The $35,800 contract will harvest 100 deer, according to the memo to city council.<\/p>\n
Controlling deer population is an ongoing collaboration between the city, the Michigan Department of Natural Resources, Jackson County Parks and Summit Township. Earlier in 2025, 80 deer were killed.<\/a><\/p>\n Overpopulation can pose a significant risk to the animals\u2019 health and residents\u2019 safety. If left uncontrolled, the herd can grow rapidly, making population management more difficult. <\/p>\n A well-planned culling program helps control population numbers and reduces the spread of disease. The DNR tests deer for diseases, and the city ensures that all harvested deer undergo health checks and proper processing. <\/p>\n The authorized deer harvest will be from Jan. 16 through March 16, 2026.
