For New Yorkers, streets aren\u2019t just a way to get from point A to point B. They\u2019re our runways, our communities and sometimes our dining rooms. That\u2019s the case with Orchard Street in Lower Manhattan, which is why we named it as one of the coolest streets in the world for 2025.<\/p>\n

New York City\u2019s Orchard Street came in as No. 9 on the global list<\/a>, joining with fellow USA streets Roscoe Street in Chicago and Pacific Coast Highway in Central Malibu.\u00a0Rua do Senado in Rio de Janeiro took the top spot.\u00a0<\/p>\n

Each of the streets on the list boasts its own magic\u2014views, architectural gems, museums, boutiques and more. Orchard Street, an eight-block\u00a0stretch of the Lower East Side, is packed with fascinating shops, dining destinations and low-rise brick buildings.\u00a0New additions to the street\u2014like bookstore\/podcast studio P&T Knitwear<\/a>, photobooth museum AUTOPHOTO<\/a> and a seasonal Open Streets<\/a> program\u2014attract crowds who are met with a bevy of dining and drinking options along the way.<\/p>\n

Perhaps most charming of all, the street still maintains its NYC authenticity and grit even as it changes. Old-school leather stores sit next to new galleries. Tattoo parlors abut fancy fragrance boutiques. Music\u00a0spills out of bars while restaurants drag tables into the street for al fresco dinners.\u00a0<\/p>\n

The street offers a feast for the eyes\u2014and the stomach. Stroll from end to end on these eight blocks, and you\u2019ll be met with dozens of bars and restaurants to sate any cravings. A must on our list:\u00a0Scarr\u2019s Pizza<\/a>. This slice isn\u2019t just one of the best in NYC, it\u2019s also one of the best in the world<\/a> thanks to pizzaiolo Scarr Pimentel who mills his own grain, offering an airy base for your toppings. Don\u2019t worry, the line moves fast.\u00a0<\/p>\n

For drinks, pull up a chair in the dimly lit, always creative Bar Contra<\/a> where the cocktail menu will keep your taste buds entertained. There\u2019s the Better Living, like a grapefruit creamsicle, and the Xipe Totec featuring a Nordic blend of herbs and citrus\u2014or try the supremely salty Saltair if you dare.<\/p>\n

Those spots just scratch the surface of where you should be eating, drinking and hanging out on Orchard Street.\u00a0<\/p>\n

To write about the Orchard Street\u00a0of today, we must\u00a0acknowledge the street\u2019s history. It was once packed with tenements where working-class immigrant, migrant and refugee families lived in often harrowing conditions. Today,\u00a0the Tenement Museum<\/a>\u00a0located on Orchard Street keeps their stories alive. As the museum says, \u201cTheir work helped build the city and nation, and their stories help us understand our history.\u201d It\u2019s always a must-visit but even more so today.\u00a0<\/p>\n
