He told CNN that he had already been thinking about revisiting the fictional kin before the death of <a href=\"https:\/\/variety.com\/t\/diane-keaton\/\" id=\"auto-tag_diane-keaton\" data-tag=\"diane-keaton\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">Diane Keaton<\/a>, who died in <a data-id=\"https:\/\/variety.com\/2025\/film\/news\/diane-keaton-dead-annie-hall-1236546710\/\" data-type=\"link\" href=\"https:\/\/variety.com\/2025\/film\/news\/diane-keaton-dead-annie-hall-1236546710\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">October at the age of 79<\/a>. Keaton\u2019s character, the Stone family\u2019s matriarch Sybil, dies after a terminal illness at the end of the original film. <\/p>\n<p class=\"paragraph larva \/\/ lrv-u-margin-lr-auto  lrv-a-font-body-m   \">\n\t\u201cI\u2019ve been haunted by the loss of Sybil for months now while I worked on it, and so this was a blow on a tender bruise already,\u201d Bezucha said <a href=\"https:\/\/www.cnn.com\/2025\/11\/19\/entertainment\/family-stone-sequel-thomas-bezucha-diane-keaton\" data-type=\"link\" data-id=\"https:\/\/www.cnn.com\/2025\/11\/19\/entertainment\/family-stone-sequel-thomas-bezucha-diane-keaton\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\">during a CNN interview<\/a>. \u201cMentally, I\u2019ve been spending time in that house where I\u2019ve been missing her for a while already.\u201d<\/p>\n<p class=\"paragraph larva \/\/ lrv-u-margin-lr-auto  lrv-a-font-body-m   \">\n\tNow Bezucha says he wants to \u201chonor [Keaton] even more\u201d and \u201cdo a good job by the rest of the cast.\u201d <\/p>\n<p class=\"paragraph larva \/\/ lrv-u-margin-lr-auto  lrv-a-font-body-m   \">\n\t\u201cThe Family Stone\u201d follows an awkward culture clash when Sybil\u2019s son brings his uptight girlfriend home to New England to celebrate the holidays with their wacky, bohemian family. A perennial Christmas favorite and box office hit, the movie features a star-studded cast of Sarah Jessica Parker, Dermot Mulroney, Luke Wilson, Rachel McAdams, Claire Danes and Craig T. Nelson.<\/p>\n<p class=\"paragraph larva \/\/ lrv-u-margin-lr-auto  lrv-a-font-body-m   \">\n\tIt\u2019s unclear who will be back for the follow-up film. Bezucha told CNN that nobody has officially signed on and the sequel has not been officially greenlit by Disney, which acquired the film\u2019s original distributor 20th Century Fox in 2019. However, Bezucha expressed that he only wants to return with the original cast.<\/p>\n<p class=\"paragraph larva \/\/ lrv-u-margin-lr-auto  lrv-a-font-body-m   \">\n\t\u201cI\u2019m not interested in the Brady family reunion without the original Jan,\u201d he said. <\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"The Stone family is readying for a reunion.
