It\u2019s official\u2014Chicago is home to one of the coolest streets in the world (again!).<\/p>\n

Roscoe Street\u00a0is No. 28 on Time Out\u2019s annual rankings of the coolest streets in the world<\/a>.\u00a0Barely a mile west of Wrigley Field lies \u201cthe village within the city\u201d: Roscoe Village<\/a>, a quaint, family-oriented neighborhood lined with three-story walk-ups, local watering holes and quirky boutiques. There\u2019s an almost cinematic friendliness to Roscoe Street, the Village\u2019s main thoroughfare: parents swapping weekend plans while kids pop wheelies on the sidewalk, bartenders regaling patrons with vivid stories and free shots, bakeries remembering regulars\u2019 orders by heart.\u00a0<\/p>\n

In the summer, you\u2019ll find Chicagoans flocking to Roscoe Street to celebrate Retro on Roscoe<\/a>, an annual festival where antique vendors and classic cars pack a six-block stretch of Roscoe Street. No matter the season, you won\u2019t be hard-pressed to\u00a0fill an entire day here: Spend an afternoon searching for your next thrift score at Shangri-La Vintage<\/a>,\u00a0fuel up on mole enchiladas at the family-owned Cafe El Tapatio<\/a>\u00a0and round out the day by throwing back limoncello \u201cfizz\u201d shots and dollar oysters at Volo<\/a>.<\/p>\n

What makes a street cool, exactly? Well, for one, there\u2019s much more to do than just walking. You could spend entire days exploring the avenues on the list, which boast bold, creative new ventures in the food and beverage scene, plus tons of nightlife and culture. Topping this year\u2019s rankings is Rua do Senado in Rio de Janeiro, Brazil, followed by\u00a0Orange Street in Osaka and Porto\u2019s Rua do Bonjardim.<\/p>\n
