That would be the best start for a Broadway musical adaptation ever. The studio, in trying to manage expectations, have said anything around $115 million in North America would be a huge victory.<\/p>\n<p class=\"paragraph larva \/\/  a-font-body-m     \">\n\t<a href=\"https:\/\/www.hollywoodreporter.com\/movies\/movie-news\/wicked-part-2-title-for-good-2025-release-1236087922\/\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\">Wicked: For Good<\/a> is the second title in filmmaker <a href=\"https:\/\/www.hollywoodreporter.com\/t\/jon-m-chu\/\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\">Jon M. Chu<\/a>\u2018s ambitious<a rel=\"noreferrer noopener nofollow\" target=\"_blank\" href=\"https:\/\/www.hollywoodreporter.com\/movies\/movie-features\/jon-m-chu-interview-wicked-crazy-rich-asians-britney-biopic-1236059843\/\">\u00a0big-screen adaptation<\/a>\u00a0of the iconic Broadway musical and book about the untold story of the witches of Oz. <a href=\"https:\/\/www.hollywoodreporter.com\/t\/ariana-grande\/\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\">Ariana Grande<\/a> stars as Glinda the Good Witch and\u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/www.hollywoodreporter.com\/t\/cynthia-erivo\/\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\">Cynthia Erivo<\/a> as Elphaba, the Wicked Witch of the West.<\/p>\n<p class=\"paragraph larva \/\/  a-font-body-m     \">\n\tThe movie hits cinemas in North America on Nov. 21, the weekend before Thanksgiving. It\u2019s also opening day-and-date around the globe. Disney\u2019s Zootopia 2 is the other big holiday offering, and opens on Wednesday, the eve of Thanksgiving. The animated sequel is <a href=\"https:\/\/www.hollywoodreporter.com\/movies\/movie-news\/zootopia-2-tracking-huge-box-office-thanksgiving-1236420198\/\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\">also tracking for a huge<\/a> five-day debut of at least $125 million. Thanksgiving week is one of the most lucrative corridors of the year (last year\u2019s Wicked racked up north of $263 million in its first 10-day domestically).<\/p>\n<p class=\"paragraph larva \/\/  a-font-body-m     \">\n\tAdvance ticket sales are through the roof for new latest Wicked following a deluge of promotions that commenced Oct. 8, including the film teaming up with\u00a0Dancing with the Stars\u00a0for a full-episode integration that featured Chu as guest judge, an\u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/nam02.safelinks.protection.outlook.com\/?url=https%3A%2F%2Fyoutu.be%2F27uPwH1P4uc%3Fsi%3DbjD2DUUue2ucXXgM&amp;data=05%7C02%7Cpamela.mcclintock%40thr.com%7C44032defa2194391e54908de26d16e68%7Ce950f25546e44144a778a6ff4f557492%7C0%7C0%7C638990878221666594%7CUnknown%7CTWFpbGZsb3d8eyJFbXB0eU1hcGkiOnRydWUsIlYiOiIwLjAuMDAwMCIsIlAiOiJXaW4zMiIsIkFOIjoiTWFpbCIsIldUIjoyfQ%3D%3D%7C0%7C%7C%7C&amp;sdata=U1YR7gUysbIOQsCDwxD1WWvbWBG1A4TSnearBWtoVik%3D&amp;reserved=0\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\">opening number<\/a>\u00a0choreographed by choreogrpaher Christopher Scott and\u00a0more.\u00a0The episode resulted in\u00a0Dancing with the Stars\u2019 securing its most-watched show among the coveted 18-24 age group since 2015,<a> <\/a>and generated 57 million TikTok views in 24 hours.<\/p>\n<p class=\"paragraph larva \/\/  a-font-body-m     \">\n\tThat, along with numerous other activations, has resulted in Wicked: For Good becoming Fandango\u2019s top PG-rated pre-seller of all time, and among its top ten first days ever. It is also the biggest pre-seller of 2025 to date.<\/p>\n<p class=\"paragraph larva \/\/  a-font-body-m     \">\n\tAnd, thanks to early screenings, the film\u2019s audience racking is already 97 percent on Rotten Tomatoes, versus 96 percent for Wicked.<\/p>\n<p class=\"paragraph larva \/\/  a-font-body-m     \">\n\tOn the same weekend a year ago, <a href=\"https:\/\/www.hollywoodreporter.com\/movies\/movie-news\/wicked-box-office-gladiator-ii-opening-1236070020\/\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\">the first\u00a0Wicked made history<\/a> when debuting to a record-breaking $112.5 million in its three-day debut, the best showing ever for a musical adaptation. It ultimately topped out at nearly $750 million at the worldwide box office, which was likewise the best showing ever for a Broadway musical adaptation, a genre that has been a tough nut for Hollywood to crack.<\/p>\n<p class=\"paragraph larva \/\/  a-font-body-m     \">\n\tChu\u2019s Wicked movies are based on the generation-defining musical stage play and book by Winnie Holzman, from the bestselling novel by Gregory Maguire. The film score is by John Powell and Stephen Schwartz, with music and lyrics by Schwartz. The screenplay is by Holzman and Dana Fox.<\/p>\n<p class=\"paragraph larva \/\/  a-font-body-m     \">\n\tIn Wicked: For Good, Elphaba is demonized as the Wicked Witch of the West and lives in exile, but refuses to give up on her pledge to expose The Wizard (<a href=\"https:\/\/www.hollywoodreporter.com\/t\/jeff-goldblum\/\" id=\"auto-tag_jeff-goldblum_1\" data-tag=\"jeff-goldblum\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\">Jeff Goldblum<\/a>) for what he really is.
