Illustration by Ryleigh Hood<\/a><\/p>\nFor students spending Thanksgiving away from home, UTA is bringing the holiday spirit to campus through its annual Thanksgiving Dinner. <\/p>\n
The event will take place from 5 to 8 p.m. Tuesday at Connection Caf\u00e9 and is open to students, faculty, staff, alumni and guests. <\/p>\n
Students with meal plans can use one meal swipe to attend the dinner. Those without a meal plan can purchase a ticket for $11.39 plus tax at the door. <\/p>\n
Anviti Singh, a student assistant at the Office of International Education and Department of Global Engagement, said the event will feature a traditional Thanksgiving menu, with turkey, pumpkin pie, sweets, salad bars and beverages like apple cider. <\/p>\n
The dinner will include options for vegetarian, vegan and gluten-free diets. Singh said they tried to make the dinner as inclusive as possible to serve students with dietary restrictions. <\/p>\n
The Thanksgiving Dinner began in 2017 as a small annual potluck hosted by the Office of International Education and grew into a campus wide tradition. This year, they expect between 600 and 700 students to come. <\/p>\n
Singh said the dinner tradition is important because many students cannot celebrate the holidays with their families due to financial constraints or academic deadlines. This event allows students to celebrate with the campus community. <\/p>\n
\u201cCollege is like your second home, and we try to provide that kind of family environment for everyone,\u201d she said. <\/p>\n
