{"id":392707,"date":"2025-11-20T17:33:15","date_gmt":"2025-11-20T17:33:15","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.europesays.com\/us\/392707\/"},"modified":"2025-11-20T17:33:15","modified_gmt":"2025-11-20T17:33:15","slug":"cbs-sports-shakes-up-top-25-qb-rankings-after-week-12-of-college-football","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.europesays.com\/us\/392707\/","title":{"rendered":"CBS Sports shakes up Top 25 QB rankings after Week 12 of College Football"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>A MASSIVE shake-up occurred in\u00a0CBS Sports\u2018 Top-25 quarterback rankings this week.<\/p>\n<p>Following a dominant performance against\u00a0<strong><a href=\"https:\/\/www.on3.com\/teams\/texas-longhorns\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">Texas<\/a><\/strong>, in which he passed for 229 yards and four touchdowns,<strong> Georgia<\/strong>\u00a0junior quarterback\u00a0<strong>Gunner Stockton<\/strong>\u00a0jumped 12 spots to the No. 1 ranking. In his first season as the Bulldogs\u2019 starting quarterback, Stockton has led the program to a 9-1 (7-1) record.<\/p>\n<p>Along with Stockton, who is now one of the Heisman Trophy frontrunners, familiar names such as\u00a0<strong>Texas A&amp;M<\/strong>\u2018s\u00a0<strong>Marcel Reed<\/strong>,\u00a0<strong>Ohio State<\/strong>\u2018s <strong>Julian Sayin<\/strong>, <strong>Georgia Tech<\/strong>\u2018s\u00a0<strong>Haynes King<\/strong> and\u00a0<strong>Indiana<\/strong>\u2018s <strong>Fernando Mendoza<\/strong>,\u00a0round out the top-five.\u00a0<strong>Arizona<\/strong>\u2018s\u00a0<strong>Noah Fifita<\/strong>\u00a0and\u00a0<strong>North Texas<\/strong>\u2018\u00a0<strong>Drew Mestemaker<\/strong>\u00a0also jumped into the top-10.<\/p>\n<p>Although his first season as <strong>Georgia<\/strong>\u2018s starting quarterback started a bit rocky, Stockton has really come into his own as the regular season winds down. After losing to <strong>Alabama<\/strong> in its second SEC game, Stockton has led the Bulldogs to six consecutive wins as they seek yet another College Football Playoff appearance.<\/p>\n<p>In 10 games this year, Stockton has passed for 2,269 yards, 19 touchdowns, and just three interceptions. He struggled mightily in Georgia\u2019s College Football Playoff Game last season in relief of an injured <strong><a href=\"https:\/\/www.on3.com\/rivals\/carson-beck-18711\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">Carson Beck<\/a><\/strong>, but it appears as if he will get a chance at a do-over this season.<\/p>\n<p><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" width=\"1024\" height=\"538\" src=\"https:\/\/www.europesays.com\/us\/wp-content\/uploads\/2025\/11\/Reed-1024x538.png\" alt=\"\" class=\"wp-image-3957685\"  \/>Nov 15, 2025; College Station, Texas, USA; Texas A&amp;M Aggies quarterback Marcel Reed (10) reacdts after a play during the second quarter against the South Carolina Gamecocks at Kyle Field. Mandatory Credit: Troy Taormina-Imagn Images<\/p>\n<p><strong>Texas A&amp;M<\/strong>\u00a0is off to a sizzling 10-0 start led by superstar quarterback\u00a0<strong>Marcel Reed<\/strong>, who\u2019s passed for 2,632 yards, 22 touchdowns and eight interceptions this season. Reed has also rushed for 391 yards and six more touchdowns. The Aggies have stacked quality wins against\u00a0<strong>Notre Dame<\/strong>, <strong><a href=\"https:\/\/www.on3.com\/sites\/mizzou-today\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">Missouri<\/a><\/strong> and\u00a0<strong><a href=\"https:\/\/www.on3.com\/teams\/lsu-tigers\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">LSU<\/a><\/strong>\u00a0and look to be on their way to their first ever appearance in the College Football Playoff.<\/p>\n<p>In their comeback victory against\u00a0<strong><a href=\"https:\/\/www.on3.com\/teams\/south-carolina-gamecocks\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">South Carolina<\/a><\/strong>\u00a0on Saturday, Reed passed for a season-high 439 yards, three touchdowns and two interceptions. They trailed the Gamecocks 30-3 at halftime but outscored them 28-0 in the second half, stealing a 31-30 win. It marked the biggest comeback victory in program history, led by Reed\u2019s stellar second half.<\/p>\n<p>Sophomore quarterback\u00a0<strong>Julian Sayin<\/strong>\u00a0has been perfect for the No. 1 ranked\u00a0<strong>Ohio State Buckeyes<\/strong>\u00a0this season. Through eight games, Sayin has passed for 2,675 yards, 25 touchdowns and just four interceptions. He has dominated Big Ten competition, as he\u2019s tossed 17 touchdowns and just one interceptions in games against\u00a0<strong>Washington<\/strong>,\u00a0<strong><a href=\"https:\/\/www.on3.com\/sites\/gophers-nation\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">Minnesota<\/a><\/strong>, No. 17\u00a0<strong>Illinois<\/strong>,\u00a0<strong><a href=\"https:\/\/www.on3.com\/sites\/badger-blitz\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">Wisconsin<\/a><\/strong>,\u00a0<strong><a href=\"https:\/\/www.on3.com\/teams\/penn-state-nittany-lions\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">Penn State<\/a><\/strong>, <strong><a href=\"https:\/\/www.on3.com\/teams\/purdue-boilermakers\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">Purdue<\/a><\/strong>, and <strong><a href=\"https:\/\/www.on3.com\/sites\/bruin-blitz\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">UCLA<\/a><\/strong>.<\/p>\n<p>He has found a strong connection with superstar wide receiver\u00a0<strong><a href=\"https:\/\/www.on3.com\/rivals\/jeremiah-smith-60214\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">Jeremiah Smith<\/a><\/strong>. Sayin and Smith have connected for 902 yards and 10 touchdowns this season, with their longest hook-up coming via an 87-yard touchdown in the Buckeyes\u2019 70-0 drumming of\u00a0<strong><a href=\"https:\/\/www.on3.com\/college\/grambling-state-tigers\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">Grambling State<\/a><\/strong>\u00a0on Sept. 6.\u00a0<strong>Ohio State<\/strong>\u00a0has all but wrapped up a second straight College Football Playoff appearance, meaning Sayin has very likely led the Buckeyes back to the CFP in his first season as the starter.<\/p>\n<p>Veteran quarterback\u00a0<strong>Haynes King<\/strong>\u00a0led\u00a0<strong>Georgia Tech<\/strong>\u00a0to an 8-0 start before it suffered its first loss of the season two weeks ago against\u00a0<strong>NC State<\/strong>. Although they now sit at 9-1 (6-1), the Jackets are more than still alive in their quest to make the College Football Playoff for the first time ever. In nine games this season, King has passed for 2,259 yards, 10 touchdowns and just two interceptions. He\u2019s been even better on the ground, rushing for 807 yards and 14 touchdowns.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cIt means a lot,\u201d King said earlier this season. \u201cMany legends have come through here and just getting mentioned in that category (of best\u00a0<strong>Georgia Tech<\/strong>\u00a0quarterbacks of all time), in just the same sentence as them, it means a lot to me. But the job\u2019s not done, and if we don\u2019t finish it the right way then you\u2019re going to be forgotten about. This could not have been farther from the truth however, as the Hoosiers are 11-0, ranked second in the country, and look to be en route to a second consecutive appearance in the CFP.\u00a0<strong><a href=\"https:\/\/www.on3.com\/sites\/golden-bear-report\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">Cal<\/a><\/strong>\u00a0transfer quarterback\u00a0<strong>Fernando Mendoza<\/strong>\u00a0has been instrumental in their phenomenal season, as he\u2019s passed for 2,641 yards, 30 touchdowns and just five interceptions this year.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cI want to be consistently the best\u00a0<strong>Fernando Mendoza<\/strong>\u00a0that I can become,\u201d\u00a0Mendoza told\u00a0CBS Sports\u2019\u00a0<strong>Jenny Dell<\/strong>\u00a0on the Oct. 29 edition of \u2018<a href=\"https:\/\/youtu.be\/Ny7M5Qk39yc?si=NXj6mxB8qZQAcnbB\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">Inside College Football<\/a>\u2018. \u201cIt really starts with the coaching points of keeping every play to itself. Once a play happens, good, bad, or indifferent, put it behind you.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>Things started off rough for\u00a0<strong>Alabama<\/strong>\u00a0quarterback\u00a0<strong>Ty Simpson<\/strong>\u00a0this season, but he has been one of the best quarterbacks in the conference since the Tide\u2019s season-opening loss to\u00a0<strong><a href=\"https:\/\/www.on3.com\/teams\/florida-state-seminoles\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">Florida State<\/a><\/strong>. Since that loss,\u00a0<strong>Alabama<\/strong>\u00a0has won eight of its last nine games (including four against ranked opponents). Through 10 games this season, Simpson has thrown for 2,787 yards, 22 touchdowns and just two interceptions. In their five games against ranked opponents, Simpson has thrown 10 touchdowns to just two interceptions.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cThere\u2019s things he can keep getting better at, just staying within himself,\u201d head coach\u00a0<strong><a href=\"https:\/\/www.on3.com\/rivals\/coach\/kalen-deboer-135577\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">Kalen DeBoer<\/a><\/strong>\u00a0said about Simpson earlier this season. \u201cThat\u2019s really the key with him, just stay within himself and not try to do too much. When he does that, he stacks plays, he stacks first downs. Sooner or later, we\u2019re in the end zone. I think there\u2019s still a lot of room for improvement, and the sky\u2019s the limit for him.\u201d<\/p>\n<p><strong>Arizona<\/strong> junior quarterback <strong>Noah Fifita<\/strong> jumped 16 spots into the top-10 for the first time this season. This comes after a 294 passing yard and one touchdown performance against No. 25 <strong><a href=\"https:\/\/www.on3.com\/college\/cincinnati-bearcats\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">Cincinnati<\/a><\/strong> last Saturday. The Wildcats now sit at 7-3 and are on their way to their first bowl game appearance under head coach <strong><a href=\"https:\/\/www.on3.com\/rivals\/coach\/brent-brennan-132959\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">Brent Brennan<\/a><\/strong>.<\/p>\n<p>Through 10 games this season, Fifita boasts 2,494 yards, 24 touchdowns, and just four interceptions. He has been on a roll to close out the regular season, passing for nine touchdowns and no interceptions over Arizona\u2019s past four games (<strong><a href=\"https:\/\/www.on3.com\/college\/houston-cougars\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">Houston<\/a><\/strong>, <strong><a href=\"https:\/\/www.on3.com\/sites\/cu-sports-report\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">Colorado<\/a><\/strong>, <strong><a href=\"https:\/\/www.on3.com\/sites\/jayhawk-slant\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">Kansas<\/a><\/strong>, and <strong>Cincinnati<\/strong>).<\/p>\n<p><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" width=\"1024\" height=\"538\" src=\"https:\/\/www.europesays.com\/us\/wp-content\/uploads\/2025\/11\/Pavia-1024x538.png\" alt=\"\" class=\"wp-image-3958047\"  \/>\u00a9 Andrew Nelles \/ The Tennessean \/ USA TODAY NETWORK via Imagn Images<\/p>\n<p><strong>Vanderbilt<\/strong> quarterback <strong>Diego Pavia<\/strong> rose one spot in this week\u2019s rankings following a bye-week. Pavia has been one of the key factors in one of the best <strong>Vanderbilt<\/strong> seasons in program history. The polarizing arm has passed for 2,440 yards, 21 touchdowns, and five interceptions, along with rushing for 613 yards and seven more scores.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cHell yeah I believe it,\u201d Pavia responded following the Commodores\u2019 win over <strong>Missouri<\/strong> on Oct. 25 when asked if he could be a Heisman Trophy contender. \u201cWe\u2019ve just got to keep winning football games and I feel like with the schedule we\u2019ve got, obviously it\u2019s a difficult schedule playing in the SEC. You play a lot of ranked games.\u201d<\/p>\n<p><strong>Ole Miss<\/strong> quarterback <strong>Trinidad Chambliss<\/strong> has been one of the best stories in all of college football this season. Chambliss, who transferred in from <strong>Ferris State<\/strong>, assumed starting duties from <strong><a href=\"https:\/\/www.on3.com\/rivals\/austin-simmons-151064\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">Austin Simmons<\/a><\/strong> on Sept. 13 and never looked back. Chambliss, who has played in all 11 of <strong>Ole Miss<\/strong>\u2018 games this season, has passed for 2,657 yards, 14 touchdowns, and just three interceptions. He\u2019s also rushed for 444 yards and six more scores.<\/p>\n<p>Chambliss has the Rebels sitting at 10-1 ahead of their Egg Bowl matchup against <strong><a href=\"https:\/\/www.on3.com\/teams\/mississippi-state-bulldogs\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">Mississippi State<\/a><\/strong>. If they can win that game, <strong><a href=\"https:\/\/www.on3.com\/rivals\/coach\/lane-kiffin-135051\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">Lane Kiffin<\/a><\/strong>\u2018s program will all but wrap up their first appearance in the College Football Playoff for the first time in program history.<\/p>\n<p>There has been no better freshman quarterback in all of college football this season than <strong>North Texas<\/strong>\u2018 <strong>Drew Mestemaker<\/strong>. Mestemaker has the Mean Green ranked for the first time since 1959 and well in contention for the College Football Playoff\u2019s G5 bid. The Austin, TX native has passed for 3,000 yards, 23 touchdowns, and four interceptions this season.<\/p>\n<p>Mestemaker has been on a heater to end the regular season, passing for 10 touchdowns and just one interception over the final four games.
