Conversations Happening"},"content":{"rendered":"<p class=\"paragraph larva \/\/  a-font-body-m     \">\n\t<a href=\"https:\/\/www.hollywoodreporter.com\/t\/hbo\/\" id=\"auto-tag_hbo_1\" data-tag=\"hbo\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">HBO<\/a> may be in the business of saving <a href=\"https:\/\/www.hollywoodreporter.com\/t\/poker-face\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">Poker Face<\/a>.<\/p>\n<p class=\"paragraph larva \/\/  a-font-body-m     \">\n\tDuring a\u00a02026 HBO Max programming slate presentation hosted by Casey\u00a0Bloys at New York\u2019s Hudson Yards, the HBO and HBO Max chairman and CEO\u00a0said the network actually heard the original pitch for <a href=\"https:\/\/www.hollywoodreporter.com\/t\/rian-johnson\/\" id=\"auto-tag_rian-johnson_1\" data-tag=\"rian-johnson\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">Rian Johnson<\/a>\u2018s series that was just canceled at <a href=\"https:\/\/www.hollywoodreporter.com\/t\/peacock\/\" id=\"auto-tag_peacock_1\" data-tag=\"peacock\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">Peacock<\/a>.<\/p>\n<p class=\"paragraph larva \/\/  a-font-body-m     \">\n\t\u201cWe heard the original take,\u201d he told The Hollywood Reporter during the Thursday presser, \u201cand when I heard that Peacock wasn\u2019t moving forward, we were curious. So we\u2019ve had conversations, but I don\u2019t know which way it\u2019ll go. But I think Rian is a fantastic filmmaker, and I love the idea of <a href=\"https:\/\/www.hollywoodreporter.com\/t\/peter-dinklage\/\" id=\"auto-tag_peter-dinklage_1\" data-tag=\"peter-dinklage\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">Peter Dinklage<\/a>, but I have nothing to report on that.\u201d<\/p>\n<p class=\"paragraph larva \/\/  a-font-body-m     \">\n\tLast week, <a rel=\"noreferrer noopener\" data-id=\"https:\/\/www.hollywoodreporter.com\/tv\/tv-news\/poker-face-canceled-peacock-2-seasons-1236426425\/\" target=\"_blank\" data-type=\"link\" href=\"https:\/\/www.hollywoodreporter.com\/tv\/tv-news\/poker-face-canceled-peacock-2-seasons-1236426425\/\">Peacock surprise canceled<\/a> the Natasha Lyonne-led\u00a0Poker Face\u00a0after two seasons, but series creator\u00a0Johnson\u00a0had said he was looking to take the show to another outlet with <a href=\"https:\/\/www.hollywoodreporter.com\/t\/game-thrones\/\" id=\"auto-tag_game-thrones_1\" data-tag=\"game-thrones\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">Game of Thrones<\/a> and HBO alum Dinklage as the new lead actor, replacing Lyonne.<\/p>\n<p class=\"paragraph larva \/\/  a-font-body-m     \">\n\tPeacock canceled the Columbo-inspired detective procedural about four months after\u00a0the conclusion of season two, which didn\u2019t perform as well as the first installment that released in 2023, based on available ratings data. <a rel=\"noreferrer noopener\" data-id=\"https:\/\/www.hollywoodreporter.com\/tv\/tv-news\/poker-face-canceled-peacock-2-seasons-1236426425\/\" target=\"_blank\" data-type=\"link\" href=\"https:\/\/www.hollywoodreporter.com\/tv\/tv-news\/poker-face-canceled-peacock-2-seasons-1236426425\/\">The Hollywood Reporter previously reported<\/a> that even though though Poker Face was among Peacock\u2019s most watched original shows, and reviews remained positive, it was an expensive show to make \u2014\u00a0and bringing in a new lead actor would essentially mean having to relaunch the show \u2014 and not produced in-house at NBCUniversal. The series is produced by Johnson and Ram Bergman\u2019s T-Street and independent studio MRC Television.<\/p>\n<p class=\"paragraph larva \/\/  a-font-body-m     \">\n\tJohnson and MRC said they planned to shop\u00a0Poker Face\u00a0to other outlets, with star Lyonne no longer in the lead role of Charlie Cale (but remaining on bard as an executive producer). Dinklage signed on to play Charlie, precipitating the idea that, going forward, a new lead actor would play Charlie every two seasons.<\/p>\n<p class=\"paragraph larva \/\/  a-font-body-m     \">\n\t\u201cWe\u2019ve been germinating this next move together since writing the season two finale,\u201d Johnson and Lyonne said in a statement at the time. \u201cWe love our\u00a0Poker Face\u00a0and this is the perfect way to keep it rolling. Give us a beat and we may just see Charlie Cale again down that open highway.\u201d<\/p>\n<p class=\"paragraph larva \/\/  a-font-body-m     \">\n\tThe second season ended with a near-death for Lyonne\u2019s Charlie \u2014 which is a common plot on the series for the scrappy detective who has a sixth sense for when people are lying. Johnson spoke to THR about the risky ending, which ended with a \u201cTo Be Continued\u201d as Charlie drove her Plymouth Barracuda off a cliff, only for the series to then pull it back and reveal after the coda that she had survived.<\/p>\n<p class=\"paragraph larva \/\/  a-font-body-m     \">\n\t\u201cI was just giggling in the edit room getting the timing of that exactly right with Natasha,\u201d <a rel=\"noreferrer noopener\" data-id=\"https:\/\/www.hollywoodreporter.com\/tv\/tv-features\/poker-face-season-2-finale-cliffhanger-peacock-rian-johnson-1236312018\/\" target=\"_blank\" data-type=\"link\" href=\"https:\/\/www.hollywoodreporter.com\/tv\/tv-features\/poker-face-season-2-finale-cliffhanger-peacock-rian-johnson-1236312018\/\">Johnson, who created, writes and directs, said of the finale cliffhanger gag<\/a>. \u201cPeacock was a little nervous. They were like, \u2018Do you have to put To Be Continued?\u2019 I was like, \u2018I think it will be fine.\u2019 It\u2019s another great harkening back to the commercial break cuts that I grew up with [on TV shows] as a kid. A car would go off the ramp at the Universal backlot, the show would freeze frame and it would be like, \u2018How are they going to get out of this one!\u2019\u201d<\/p>\n<p class=\"paragraph larva \/\/  a-font-body-m     \">\n\tJohnson had said talks for season three hadn\u2019t yet begun, but he already had ideas spinning and sounded hopeful: \u201cYou never know how something is going to do, and honestly, I have a feeling those conversations are just about to start, so we\u2019ll see. I don\u2019t want to count any chickens. With television today, that\u2019s the balancing act. You leave it open in case you\u2019re lucky enough to come back, and have it end on a place that is satisfying if things don\u2019t go that way.\u201d<\/p>\n<p class=\"paragraph larva \/\/  a-font-body-m     \">\n\tFor season two, Tony Tost took over as showrunner from Nora and Lilla Zuckerman. Johnson and Bergman executive produce for T-Street; Tost, the Zuckerman sisters, Chris Provenzano, Adam Arkin and Nena Rodrigue also executive produced season two.<\/p>\n<p class=\"paragraph larva \/\/  a-font-body-m     \">\n\tAlso during Thursday\u2019s HBO event with Bloys, the network announced a slew of season renewals for <a rel=\"noreferrer noopener\" data-id=\"https:\/\/www.hollywoodreporter.com\/tv\/tv-news\/task-mark-ruffalo-renewed-season-2-hbo-1236432106\/\" target=\"_blank\" data-type=\"link\" href=\"https:\/\/www.hollywoodreporter.com\/tv\/tv-news\/task-mark-ruffalo-renewed-season-2-hbo-1236432106\/\">Task<\/a>, <a href=\"https:\/\/www.hollywoodreporter.com\/tv\/tv-news\/chair-company-i-love-la-renewed-hbo-1236432154\/\" data-type=\"link\" data-id=\"https:\/\/www.hollywoodreporter.com\/tv\/tv-news\/chair-company-i-love-la-renewed-hbo-1236432154\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">The Chair Company, I Love L.A.<\/a> and Game of Thrones prequels <a rel=\"noreferrer noopener\" data-id=\"https:\/\/www.hollywoodreporter.com\/tv\/tv-news\/house-of-the-dragon-knight-of-seven-kingdoms-renewed-hbo-1236432227\/\" target=\"_blank\" data-type=\"link\" href=\"https:\/\/www.hollywoodreporter.com\/tv\/tv-news\/house-of-the-dragon-knight-of-seven-kingdoms-renewed-hbo-1236432227\/\">House of the Dragon and A Knight of the Seven Kingdoms<\/a>.<\/p>\n<p class=\"paragraph larva \/\/  a-font-body-m     \">\n\tBloys also confirmed the speculated news that the next season of The White Lotus will film in France (creator Mike White is writing and \u201cvery, very early\u201d in the casting process, he said), and that they also have no news to report, but are thinking, about a second season of The Penguin following The Batman 2.<\/p>\n<p class=\"paragraph larva \/\/  a-font-body-m     \">\n\tTony Maglio and Rick Porter contributed to this story.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"HBO may be in the business of saving Poker Face.
